The growth rate of the local population in Korea is decreasing, but the migrant community is continuously expanding. Thus, a growing multicultural population has led to various problems, and measures must be taken accordingly. In particular, there is a need for social welfare and support among married immigrant women and children of multicultural families. On the other hand, the demands of multicultural families are changing over time, and the direction of support must be revised. Specifically, the increase in the number of married immigrants in the mid to long term or for more than five years calls for flexible government and civil assistance programs, which have been adapted to suit initial social adjustments. In the case of mid- and long-term residents, systematic support is required to minimize disruptions due to family conflicts, advancement in the social environment, such as employment, and difficulties arising from child rearing and cultural differences.

우리나라에서는 최근 출산율 저하 등으로 전체 인구 증가율은 감소하고 있으나, 이주민 인구는 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 이러한 다문화 인구의 확대는 다양한 문제를 발생시키고 있으며, 이에 따른 대책마련을 요구하 고 있다. 이중에서도 특히 결혼이주여성과 다문화가정 자녀에 대한 사회 복지적 관심과 지원의 필요성이 높아지고 있는 상황이다. 한편 다문화 가 족의 욕구는 시간이 지남에 따라 변하고 있으며, 이에 따라 지원방향도 변 화가 필요한 상황이다. 특히 5년 이상 중장기 결혼이민자의 증가는 그동 안 초기 사회적응에 맞추어졌던 정부와 민간 지원책 모두 변화가 필요한 상황이다. 중장기 거주자들의 경우 가족 간의 갈등으로 인한 가족해체, 취 업 등 사회진출, 자녀들의 양육 및 문화차이로 인해 겪는 어려움 등을 최 소화할 수 있는 체계적인 지원이 필요하다고 할 것이다.
