The purpose of this study was to present the need of the military human resources development through making school-military-work transition work to respond the knowledge-based economy and to prepare individuals for the lifelong learning. The contents of this paper covered as follows. Firstly, the need for the military human resources development was examined and a framework of the school-military-work transition was introduced. The existing studies on the school-to-work transition do not fully consider the unique situation of Korea, where young men must serve in the military. It needs to be approached with school-military-work transition framework because most Korean men serve in the military in the middle of school-to-work transition. Secondly, the current status and problems of the school-military-work were discussed on the basis of the survey results of 1,200 soldiers. The current status and problems of the military manpower acquisition and assignment system(school-to-military transition stage), the military education and training support system(the preparation stage), and the military education and training recognition system(military-to-work transition stage) were examined. Thirdly, the tasks to support the military human resources development were suggested. The military needs to actively participate in human resources development to prepare manpower for the lifelong learning society and to enhance national competitiveness.

이 글은 무한경쟁을 요구하는 지식기반경제에 대응하고 평생에 걸친 지속적인 개인의 능력개발을 지원하기 위해서는 국민 개병제하의 한국적 상황을 고려하여 학교-군-직업세계의 원활한 이행 차원에서 군 인적자원개발이 적극 이루어져야 함을 제시하였다. 이와 관련하여 대내외적 환경 변화에 대응하여 군 인적자원개발의 필요성을 제시하고 대부분의 한국 남성 청년층이 군 복무를 경험해야 하는 상황에서, 학교-군-직업세계로의 이행 모형이 새롭게 구축될 필요가 있음을 제시하였다. 또한 학교-군-직업세계의 이행 실태를 파악하기 위하여 1,200명의 병사들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문조사 결과를 통해 군 인력의 획득 및 배치 체계(학교에서 군으로의 이행 과정), 군의 교육훈련 지원 체계(군에서의 준비 단계), 군 교육훈련 평가인정 체계(군에서 직업세계로의 이행 과정)의 실태와 문제점을 살펴보고, 학교-군-직업세계의 원활한 이행을 위해 추진해 나가야 할 과제를 제시하였다.
