This study was undertaken because the need for transitional education targeting students with multicultural backgrounds was identified. An examination of prior studies related to the status of students with multicultural backgrounds in elementary and middle school revealed that education is particularly important for these students during their transition from elementary to middle school. Therefore, this study aims to develop materials for an cultural education program based on designing it’s framework,, providing to students with multicultural backgrounds during their transition from elementary to middle school to support their adjustment to a new academic setting, Given that these students have entered puberty and are members of linguistic and cultural minorities, this cultural education program provides education comprising knowledge, experiences, and attitudes related to middle-school life, considering their physical, emotional, and social aspects. This cultural education program is designed in four areas: health management, study habits, career exploration, and school life. Also cultural materials for this program on the axis of a workbook for students and a guidebook for teachers includes educational contents and activities through learner-centered experiential activities.

이 연구는 다문화 배경 학생을 대상으로 한 전환기 교육이 필요함에 대한 문제의식으로부터 출발하였다. 최근 초등과 중등 교육에서 다문화 배경 학생 현황 및 관련 선행 연구를 살펴본 결과, 특히 초등학교에서 중학교로 진급하는 학생들을 위한 전환기 교육이 매우 중요하다는 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다. 이에 이 연구에서는 중학교 전환기 다문화 배경 학생의 학교 적응을 목적으로 두고 문화 교육 프로그램의 틀을 설계하는 한편, 문화 교육 프로그램을 위한 교육 자료의 개발 방향과 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 문화 교육 프로그램은 학습자가 사춘기에 들어섰으며 언어적, 문화적 소수자라는 특성을 바탕으로 신체적, 정서적, 사회적 측면을 고려하여 중학교 생활에 대한 지식, 경험, 태도를 교육하는 데 중점을 두었다. 이는 건강 관리, 학습 습관, 진로 탐색, 학교 생활의 네 가지 영역에서 설계되었다. 또한 문화 교육 자료는 학습자용 워크북과 교사용 지도서의 두 축에서 학습자 주도의 체험 활동을 기반으로 하여 교육 내용과 활동들로 구성하였다.
