This study analyzed factors to motivate or hinder participation in the Credit Bank System for adult employees in recent Korea. The contents of the study was to investigate the background of participants who are employed and registered in the Credit Bank System, and to review development and implementation of the Credit Bank System. A nation-wide survey for Korean adults employees was conducted for the methodology of the study. The data were statistically analyzed based on respondents' social economic variables such as gender, age, income, educational background, and marital status.
The result of the statistical analysis of the study showed that the major factors to promote participation were in order to : (1) obtain a higher degree (56.7%); (2) relate to current job (16.6%); (3) to get certificates or licenses(9.5%). Only 8.9% of the respondents involved in the program of Credit Bank System just for the pleasure of learning itself. The major barriers against participation for employees were both low social recognition toward Credit Bank System and lack of time.

본 연구는 우리나라 성인근로자들이 학점은행제에 참여하는 이유와 참여를 저해하는 요인들을 분석하고 있다. 본 연구는 학점은행제에 등록하고 있는 근로자들을 대상으로 사회경제적 배경을 분석하고 우리나라 학점은행제의 발전과정과 근로자들을 대상으로 한 교육기회를 분석하였다. 연구대상은 전국 학점은행 대상기관을 통해 등록된 학생 가운데 근로자를 대상으로 하였고 총 337명이 최종 연구대상에 포함되었다. 수집된 자료는 응답자들의 사회경제적 배경, 즉 연령별, 성별, 학력별, 소득별, 결혼여부에 따라 학점은행제 교육 프로그램에 참여하고 있는 이유가 무엇이며 어떤 요인들이 참여저해 요인으로 작용하는지를 비교 분석하였다. 분석결과는 ANOVA와 Chi-square로 집단간의 차이를 분석하였고 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 성인근로자들이 학점은행제에 참여하고 있는 이유는 (1) 대학학위 취득(56.7%), (2) 현재 직업에서의 도움(16.6%), (3) 자격증 취득(9.5%) 였고, 단지 8.9%만이 학습 그 자체를 위해서 참여하고 있는 것으로 드러났다. 참여저해요인은 학점은행제 학위에 대한 사회적 인식저하와 불인정 및 시간부족을 가장 큰 요인으로 밝히고 있다.
