This study investigates and analyzes the research trends of environmental literature and ecological literature, which has recently been proposed as a research methodology of old stories in East Asia, including Korea, and examined future tasks. Environmental literature and ecological literature are pursuing eco-friendly and nature-friendly lives. This study is connected with understanding many social, political and scientific issues in modern society, and seeking changes in the attitudes of life and literary solutions. In Japan, Komine Kazuaki introduced environmental literature studies on Japanese old stories at the environmental literature symposium held in Korea. He suggested editing and reading materials on “disasters” from ancient Japanese records or identifying and thinking descriptions and symbols. Isii Masami revealed folktale's environmental protection and nature-friendly ideas to communicate with the public through lectures and publications, and addressed the environmental issues facing Japan. Recently in Korea, the following attempts are interesting; finding alternatives and tasks for life through oral literary perception of nature and life, finding various aspects of human life and practical solutions on the theme of 'old age, disability, children, diseases', the activities related to writings, lectures, and cultural activities under the theme of ‘Samguk Yusa’ and ‘Trees’ (Kim Jae-woong). The ecological and literary research in China and Vietnam and the international symposium also need to be looked at carefully. In conclusion, researchers in environmental and ecological literature in East Asian academia should be more sensitive to the social politics and ecological and scientific realities of East Asia, including Korea. In addition, there is a need to link the interpretation of classical text with the outlook for current events and the future.

이 연구는 최근 한국을 비롯해 동아시아 옛이야기에 대한 연구방법론으로써 제 기되고 있는 환경문학 및 생태문학론의 연구동향을 조사･분석하고, 향후 과제에 대해 검토하였다. 환경문학･생태문학적 연구는 문학연구를 통해 친환경적, 자연친 화적 삶을 추구하는 실천학문으로, 현대사회의 많은 사회･정치적, 과학적 현안들을 이해하고, 삶의 인식태도 변화 및 문학적 해결방식을 지향한다. 일본에서는 2010년대 중반부터 환경문학적 관점에서 환경오염 및 재해 관련 옛 이야기 연구를 진행해오고 있다. 고미네 가즈아키는 일본의 옛 기록에서 ‘재해’에 관한 자료를 편집해 읽거나, 재해에 관한 묘사와 상징을 파악하고 사유하는 방식 을 제시하였다. 이시이 마사미는 민담에 내재되어 있는 환경보호, 자연친화 사상을 밝혀 강연과 출판의 방식으로 대중들과 소통하며, 일본이 직면해 있는 환경 문제 에 대응하자고 하였다. 한국에서는 최근 자연과 생명에 대한 구비문학적 인식을 통해 삶의 대안 및 과제를 모색하려는 시도(한국구비문학회), ‘노년, 장애, 어린이, 질병’ 등을 주제로 인간 삶의 다양한 양상과 실천적 지평 모색하기(한국문학회), 삼 국유사와 ‘나무･숲’이라는 주제로 ‘저술’, ‘인문학강연’, ‘문화기행‘ 활동을 연계하기 (김재웅) 등의 시도가 주목된다. 중국과 베트남에서의 생태문학적 연구, 국제 심포 지엄 등도 주목할 만하다. 동아시아 학계의 환경문학 및 생태문학 연구자들은 한국을 비롯한 동아시아의 사회정치 및 생태･과학적 현실을 더욱 민감하게 인식하고, 고전 텍스트의 해석을 현재적 사건 및 미래에 대한 전망과 연결 짓는 태도가 필요하다.
