The purpose of this study was to demonstrate an action model designed to support college students in their international education and research, by utilizing e-learning based online learning communities. This study identified the concepts and key elements inherent to the success of internationalization in colleges and universities, via a review of the relevant literature. This model is predicated on the e-learning method, the use of which has been rapidly expanding throughout the country, due in large part to the strong supports of the Korean government.
The study analyzed the features of e-learning focusing on its underlying concepts, strengths and weaknesses, and success factors. It also examined the manner in which e-learning might be applied to the internationalization of colleges and universities, introducing a practical model which has been applied in an educational cooperative project of by APEC. which is currently underway. This paper also outlines the core elements and procedures of the e-learning based cooperative model for international education and research, via the following steps: the formation of a research project team, the derivation of research topics, the writing of an action plan, the online sharing of team members' knowledge and resources, the sharing of the research results at a college-wide onsite conference, and the submission of both an online and a paper report.
Considering the current online infrastructure being instituted at Korean colleges and universities, the e-learning based learning community model should be readily applicable for college students' international education and research activities. In order to make this model feasible for use in Korean colleges, it will be necessary to develop administrative and academic systems to approve curricular development at the department-level or major-unit-level, and to recognize and accredit students' diverse individual academic activities.

본 연구의 목적은 대학생들이 e러닝 기반의 온라인 학습공동체를 활용하여 국제협력교육 및 연구 활동을 수행할 수 있는 구체적인 실천 모델을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 기존 연구결과를 중심으로 대학교육 국제화의 개념과 진행과정, 성공요소들을 파악하고 분석하였다. 아울러 최근 국내에서 정부주도로 빠르게 확산되고 있는 e러닝을 이용하여 국내 대학이 효과적인 국제교육 연구와 협력을 수행할 수 있는 모델을 탐색, 분석하였다.
연구의 결과로 먼저, e러닝의 개념과 장단점 및 성공 요소 등을 중심으로 한 특성을 알아보고 이를 대학의 국제화 활동에 어떻게 연계시킬 수 있을지를 실제 적용모델을 중심으로 탐색해 보았다. 대학생들의 의사결정 및 참여 활동을 중심으로 하는 e러닝 기반의 국제교육연구 협력모델의 핵심 요소와 절차는 협력프로젝트팀 구성, 연구주제 도출, 실행계획서 작성, 팀 구성원 간 지식 및 자원 공유, 온사이트 상의 결과물 공유, 보고서 작성 등이다. 본 연구에서 제시한 e러닝 기반의 학습공동체 모델은 현재 우리나라 대학의 e러닝 관련 인프라 구축 수준과 대학생의 e러닝 활용수준을 고려해 볼 때 충분히 가능성이 있다고 생각한다. 이를 위해서는 대학에서 각 학과별 혹은 전공단위별 자율적인 교육과정 구성과 다양한 개인의 활동을 인정해 줄 수 있는 체제가 필요하다고 하겠다.
