The purpose of this study is to exam adolescents’ psychological and emotional issues through rap music therapy. Nine adolescents aged 14 to 19 years old attending community child center in Seoul were referred by the social workers. It was purposive sampling for the study. Rap music therapy focused on writing rap lyrics was conducted once a week for 50 minutes, total 10 of sessions, from March 14 to May 16, 2019. 75 songs written by the adolescents were analysed by content analysis method of Roberts and McFerran. 389 lyrics and 60 codes were identified from 75 songs and the codes were categorized into 5 themes. The lyrics content analysis revealed the following themes: ‘self’, ‘negative emotions’, ‘relationship dynamics’ and ‘positive emotions’. The remaining codes that did not fall under the three themes were categorized as ‘miscellaneous’ which included codes related to the military, money, smoking, alcohol, diet, etc. To provide some detailed explanations on the 60 codes, ‘situations perceived by self’, ‘positive future image’, ‘value attitude’, ‘emotions about the opposite sex’, ‘perception of self’, ‘perception of others’ and ‘feeling of physical inferiority’ were some of important codes that were identified. The findings of this study suggest that music therapy intervention using rap is an effective clinical tool to unveil adolescents’ values, concerns and other factors that are necessary for psychological and emotional support.

본 연구의 목적은 랩(Rap) 음악치료를 통해 청소년들의 심리ㆍ정서적 이슈와 그 내용을 알아보는데 있다. 연구 대상자는 서울시에 소재한 K 지역아동센터에서 14세부터 19세 사이의 청소년 9명을 복지 사의 추천을 받아 의도 표집하였다. 랩 가사 만들기 중심의 랩 음악치료는 2019년 3월 14일부터 5월 16일까지 50분씩 주 1회, 총 10회기에 걸쳐 진행되었다. 연구의 자료는 연구 참여 청소년들이 만든 75개의 곡 가사 내용으로 Roberts와 McFerran의 가사 내용분석 방법을 통해 분석되었다. 가사 내용은 총 75개 곡으로부터 389개의 가사와 60개의 코드(code)를 도출하였고, 총 5개의 주제로 범주화하였다. 가사 내용의 분석결과, 주제는 ‘자아’, ‘부정적 감정’, ‘관계 역동’, ‘긍정적 감정’, 이밖에 각 주제에 해당하지 않는 군대, 돈, 담배 술, 다이어트 등을 포함한 ‘기타’로 분류되었다. 각 코드의 순위를 살펴 보면 가장 큰 비중을 차지하고 있는 코드는 ‘내가 보는 주변 상황들’, ‘긍정적 미래상’, ‘가치 태도’, ‘이성에 대한 감정’, ‘내가 보는 나’, ‘타인에 대한 인식’, 그리고 ‘신체적 열등의식’ 등으로 도출되었 다. 이러한 연구결과는 랩을 활용한 음악치료 중재가 그들의 가치관, 고민 등 심리적 정서 지원에 필 요한 것을 탐구하는데 좋은 치료 도구가 되는 것을 시사한다.
