Jordanus wrote a travel account after his mission to India in the late Middle Ages. His travel account follows the general characteristics of Eastern Medieval travel writings, but in addition to these features, his travel account is unique in terms of narratives focusing on ‘mirabilia’. In India Jordanus found many new and interesting animals, plants, customs, and traditions. Some of these marvelous things may have been heard from old days, but some of them entirely new. On the contrary, some of the legends that were said to be in India may not have been seen by them. Jordanus sent traditional ‘mirabilia’ that he did not see himself to send to Third India that he had not visited, namely Africa, and gave the word ‘mirabilia’ to his newly discovered information in India. This mixed use has cleverly incorporated new information into traditional knowledge systems. Although this replacement did not gain the public's popularity, it appears to have been somewhat successful in attracting the attention of intellectuals.

요르다누스는 중세 말 인도로 포교를 다녀온 뒤 여행기를 저술했다. 그의 여 행기는 중세 말 동방여행기가 가지고 있는 일반적 특징을 따르고 있지만, 이러 한 특징 이외에 ‘신기한 것’을 중심으로 한 서술이라는 독특함을 가지고 있다. 인도를 방문한 요르다누스의 입장에서 보면, 인도에는 온갖 새롭고 신기한 동물 이나 식물, 풍습이나 전통이 많았을 것이다. 그러한 진기한 것들 중에는 옛날부 터 말로만 듣던 것들도 있을 것이고, 전혀 새로운 것도 있었을 것이다. 반대로 인도에 있다고 전해지던 전설적인 것들 중 자신이 보지 못한 것도 있었을 것이 다. 요르다누스는 자신이 직접 보지 못한 전통적인 ‘신기한 것’들은 자신이 방 문하지 않은 제3인도, 즉 아프리카로 보내고, 자신이 인도에서 새로 발견한 정 보에 ‘신기한 것’의 지위를 부여했다. 이렇게 혼용함으로써 새로운 정보를 전통 적인 지식체계에 교묘하게 편입시켰던 것이다. 이러한 교체가 대중들의 인기를 얻지는 못했지만, 지식인의 관심을 끄는 데에는 다소간 성공한 것으로 보인다.
