- Bae Ki-Hyung is a first-age architect of Korean Modern Architecture, who has designed and realized structure-centered large–scale factories, long-span special structures, and high-rise offices during 1950~1960s’. He has gone beyond the basic status of technician to a important creative architect in that times and played a core role for structure-centered modern architecture in Korea. The purpose of this study is to analyse the connection to the modern structural technology, knowledge, and education with architect Bae Ki-hyung. After liberalization from Japanese colonialization, he came back to Korea and earned fame as a leading-edge technician architect in the long-span structural part. His status would be connected with modern architectural history which has been took the technical aid of modern steelworks structure knowledge from the West and establishment of education system during Japanese colonial period’s practice. Architect Bae Ki-hyung was modern man who has been grown up by the development of steelworks building and education system, which is condensed with Japanese modern architectural technology from the West.
