Based on resource-base view and dynamic capability theory, this study examines the relationship between technology innovation capability and internationalization in Korean venture firms. Especially, this paper focuses on the role and interactions of technological innovation capability as one of the key competencies of Korean domestic technology based venture firms. As the antecedent factors of technological innovation capacity, R&D investment and external collaborations were considered. Technology innovation performance is defined as intellectual property rights of venture firms. Key research findings are as follow. First, R&D investment has a positive effect on technological innovation performance, but it does not directly impact on internationalization performance. Second, collaborations with external key stakeholder have also a positive effect on technology innovation performance, but have no significant effect on internationalization. Third, the technology innovation performance has a positive impact on the internationalization of venture firms. The results imply that the influence of technology innovation capabilities on internationalization may differ according to input factors such as R&D collaboration and performance factors like patents. The mediating effects of technology innovation performance on the relationship between R&D investment, external stakeholder collaborations and internationalization are confirmed. This study would be meaningful for recognizing that technological innovation capabilities based on R&D investment and collaboration in technology-based Korean venture firms are critical determinant factors for sustainable growth and internationalization.

본 연구는 자원기반과 동적역량 관점에서 벤처기업의 지속적인 성장을 위한 본원적 핵심역량의 하나인 기술혁신역량의 역할에 주목하여 기술혁신역량이 국제화에 미치는 영향을 규명 하고자 한다. 우리나라 벤처기업을 대상으로 기술혁신역량을 투자와 성과관점에서 연구개발역량과 외부 이해관계자와의 협업역량을 선행요인으로 정의하고 특허를 포함한 지적재산권을 성과요인으로 구성하여 이들이 국제화에 미치는 영향을 경로모델로 분석 하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 내부 연구인력과 투자관점의 연구개발역량은 기술혁신성과에는 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤으나 국제화에는 직접적인 영향을 미치지는 않는 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 외부 주요이 해관계자들과의 협업도 기술혁신성과에는 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나 국제화에는 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 셋째, 기술혁신성과는 벤처기업의 국제화 수준에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 나타냈다. 결론적으로 벤처기업의 연구개발투자와 외부 이해관계자와의 협업을 통한 기술혁신활동은 비록 국제화에 직접적으로 유의한 영향을 미치지는 않지만 연구개발투자와 협업 등의 기술혁신활동을 통한 지적자산의 가시적인 창출인 기술혁신성과의 유의한 완전매개효과를 통해 국제화에 정(+)의 영향이 존재함을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 우리나라 벤처기업의 지속적인 성장과 국제화에 있어 기술혁신역량이 유의한 결정요인으로 영향을 미치며 기술혁신역량의 내·외부 연구개발투자와 협업의 투입요소와 특허 등의 성과요소에 따라 영향수준이 상이함을 확인한 것에 의미가 있다 할 것이다.
