This paper examines a possible impact of exchange rate risk on international trade by focusing on the econometric issue related to the risk variable measured. Specifically, it discuss a two-step procedure of consistent and efficient OLS estimation for the export equation which includes the variable generated by an ARCH type model for the risk in exchange rate fluctuations. Then, the procedure is applied to the case of Korean bilateral exports to the US. The empirical results indicate that volatility in the won-dollar real exchange rate has a negative impact on Korea's exports to U.S. and that the effect is statistically significant. This evidence of OLS estimation is also similar with the one obtained by IV-GMM estimation. The result provides an implication for the most recent US blame that Korea is one of the currency manipulating countries with China and Japan.

본고는 환율 변동의 불확실성이 무역 거래에 어떻게 영향을 미치는가를 환율 변동성을 측정한 변수로 인하여 발생되는 계량적 문제를 중심으로 논하고자 한다. 구체적으로, 환율 변동을 ARCH 모델 형태로 측정 하였으면 수출함수의 구조적 모형에서 효율적인 2 단계 OLS 추정이 가능함을 보여준다. 이러한 계량적 접근 방법을 한국의 대미국 수출 함수에 응용 적용 하였는데, 실증 분석 결과는 원-달러 실질 환율 변동의 불확실성이 한국의 대미 수출에 통계적으로 부정적 영향을 끼침을 보여준다. 이러한 OLS에 의한 추정 결과를 좀 더 확인하기 위하여 다른 추정 방법인 IV-GMM 추정치와 비교 하는데 그 결과는 차이가 없음을 보여준다. 끝으로, 이러한 실증 분석 결과는 미국이 한국을 환율 조작 국가의 하나로 간주 하는 데에 대한 주장과는 다른 결과를 보여줌을 알 수 있다.
