Shin-gyusig(신규식) is one of Korea's representative independence activists. His life is deeply related to Daejonggyo, the Korean orthodox religion. His entry into the religion was not just a religious dimension, but a connection with the direction of Korean modern history. His entry into the religion could be said to have been a struggle to overcome the contradictions caused by foreign religious ideologies and to open a new world with Hongik human thought(홍익인간), the philosophy of Korean. His exile to China and activities in China carried out to practice the religious ideology of the Daejonggyo are largely through the Daejonggyo Network. His activities, such as 'Dongjesa(동제사)', 'Pak Dal Academy(박달학원),' 'Declaration of great unity'(대동단결의 선언), and 'Declaration of Independence(대한독립선언)' can be seen as a series of processes for practicing his religious ideology. In particular, he was deeply involved in the Declaration of Daedong Unity and the Declaration of Independence, which is the spiritual background of the 3.1 Revolution, and led the establishment of the interim government of Korea. Shin-gyusig enthusiastically launched a national independence struggle. Nevertheless, desperate for the decline of the Sonmun(孫文) government and the internal division of the Korean interim government, he chose martyrdom to urge Korean awakenings such as Nachul(나철) and Seoil(서일). 신규식은 한국근대 대표적인 독립운동가 중의 한 분이다. 그의 삶 은 대종교 깊은 관련이 있다. 그의 대종교 입교는 단순히 종교적인 차원을 넘어 한국근대사가 나아갈 방향과 깊은 관련이 있다. 그의 대 종교 입교는 외래 종교사상으로 인한 모순(사대주의)을 극복하고 홍 익인간 사상으로 새로운 세계를 열려는 처절한 몸부림이었다고 평가 할 수 있다. 그는 대종교의 종교사상을 실천하기 위해 단행된 중국 망명과 활 동은 대체로 대종교 네트워크를 통하여 이루어진 것이다. ‘동제사’, ‘박달학원,’ ‘대동단결의 선언’, ‘대한독립선언’이라는 그의 활동은 그의 종교사상을 실천하기 위한 일련의 과정이라고 볼 수 있다. 특히 그는 3.1혁명의 정신적 배경이라고 할 수 있는 ‘대동 단결의 선언’과 ‘대한독립선언’에 깊이 관여하였으며, 대한민국임 시정부 성립을 주도하였다. 신규식은 열정적으로 민족독립투쟁을 전개하였다. 그럼에도 손문 정부의 쇠퇴와 대한민국임시정부의 내부 분열에 절망한 그는 나철과 서일처럼 한민족의 각성을 촉구하기 위해 순교(순국)를 선택하였다.
