This study explorers a non-literary, publishing translator’s habitus, which is less-researched in Korea, reflected in epitext as well as his translation work. Especially, the epitext analyzed in this study includes translator-authored essays, interviews, news articles, internet forums and other resources that have been overlooked in the existing paratext literature in Translation Studies. The result shows that his primary habitus is characterized by his emphasis on making a living with translation practices, target-orientedness focusing on conveying messages, and entrepreneurship. His habitus plays a pivotal role in shaping his translation practices and work trajectories structured by internalizing the target-oriented doxa, as well as structuring the field by establishing a translation agency and a publishing company, and by challenging and negotiating the field doxa to form hexis, which is well reflected in his translational work. The study contributes to broadening the scope of not only Korea’s paratext literature, but also the translator study.
