This article focuses on the problems of Relay Translation of Russian films in Korea. In this context, the purpose of this study is to examine how Russian films are translated into Korean and what kinds of mistranslations and distortions occur in the process of Relay Translation. The article is divided into three sections. First, the history of Audiovisual Translation research is briefly examined. Also, the concept and problems of Relay Translation in the audiovisual translation industry are overviewed. Second, the subtitle translations of specific Russian films are systematically analyzed according to the following three questions: ’are the Russian films translated from English if threre is no information about translator in the film?‘, ‘what kind of mistranslations and distortions occur in the process of Relay Translation?', 'what causes mistranslation and distortions?'. Finally, conclusions are drawn and brief observations are made about problems of the Russian films’ Relay translation. The study concludes with suggestions and implications to improve the quality of translation of Korean subtitles in Russian films.
