Now, in China, there is a growing demand for the improvement of medical services due to changes in population structure and the advancement of people’s living patterns in line with economic growth. This will lead to the rush of foreign-funded medical institutions to China, linked to the demands of various medical service markets, such as advanced medical industry, silver industry, and angel industry. In this regard, this study examined the developing process of foreign-funded medical institutions and the status of investment into seven major regions of China and analyzed their business model to China. We would like to suggest some implications for this. China’s foreign-funded medical institutions have developed four stages from 1989 to the present: exploration period(1989-1997), stagnation period(1998-2009), rapid growth period(2010-2013), and reform preparation period(2014-present). The total number of foreign medical institutions in China increased from 220 in 2013 to 288 in 2018. Among them, there are 47 of North China, 25 of Northeast China, 80 of East China, 16 of South China, 36 of Central China, 60 of Southwest China, and 24 of Northwest China. There are concentrated about 50% in East China and Southwest China. The total operating income of foreign-funded medical institutions in China increased from 6.89 billion RMB in 2013 to 16.05 billion RMB in 2018. Accordingly, in 2025, the total operating income of foreign-funded medical institutions in China are expected to reach 33.81 billion RMB, growing by more than 10% annually. On the other hand, the business models of foreign medical institutions in China are five: ‘Public Hospital Reform + Foreign Investment Model’, ‘Private + Public Organization Model’, ‘Hong Kong’s Model’, ‘High-End Hospital Model’, and ‘Foreign-funded General Hospital’, etc. Therefore, in order for Korean-funded medical institutions to successfully invest in China, it is necessary to prepare detailed strategies such as incentive policies of provincial government, medical care speciality subjects, requirements for designating public health insurance designated medical institutions, and appropriate business models.

중국은 현재 인구구조의 변화, 경제성장에 따른 주민 생활패턴의 선진화 등으로 의 료서비스의 질적 향상에 대한 요구가 커지고 있다. 이는 고급 의료서비스, 양로서비스, 엔젤의료서비스 등 다양한 의료서비스시장의 수요로 연계되어 외자의료기관의 중국진 출 러시(rush)로 이어질 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 중국 외자의료기관의 발전과정과 7대 권역별(화북, 동북, 화동, 화남, 화중, 서남, 서북 등) 진출 현황을 살펴보고, 그들의 중국 진출 모델을 분석함으로써, 한국 의료기관의 중국진출에 시사점을 제시하고자 한다. 중국 외자의료기관은 1989년부터 현재까지 수립탐색기(1989-1997년), 정체기(1998- 2009년), 급성장기(2010-2013년), 개혁완비기(2014년-현재) 등 4단계 과정을 통해 발전 해왔다. 중국 전체 외자의료기관 수는 2013년 220개에서 2018년 288개로 증가했다. 그 중, 화북지역 47개, 동북지역 25개, 화동지역 80개, 화남지역 16개, 화중지역 36개, 서남 지역 60개, 서북지역 24개 등이 존재하여, 화동지역과 서남지역에 약 50%(48.6%) 정도가 집중되어 있다. 중국내 외자의료기관의 전체 영업수입 규모는 2013년 68.9억 위안에 서 2018년 160.5억 위안으로 나타났다. 이에 따라, 오는 2025년 중국내 외자의료기관의 전체 수입규모는 연평균 10%이상 성장을 통해 338.1억 위안에 이를 것으로 전망하고 있다. 한편, 외자의료기관의 중국진출 모델은 첫째, 공립병원 개혁+외자유입 모델, 둘째, 민영+공립편제 모델, 셋째, 홍콩식 모델, 넷째, 하이엔드(High-end)병원 모델, 다섯째, 외자 종합병원 등 크게 5가지 형태로 되어 있다. 따라서 한국의 의료기관이 중국에 성공적으로 진출하기 위해서는 해당 진출 지역 지방정부의 장려정책, 진료과목, 공공 건강보험 지정 의료기관 선정요건, 적합한 진출 모델 등의 전략수립을 세밀하게 준비 할 필요가 있다.
