In this study, the researcher argues that the‘culturally responsive teaching’(CRT), which is being noticed in the United States as part of the 'equity pedagogy', needs to be applied to nonformal education for adults in Korea. This study is aimed at exploring the conditions for the successful implementation of CRT. The researcher selected five adult educators with teaching experience in integrated education for immigrants and residents, as study participants and conducted the interview. Through interviews, the researcher sought to identify the contextual characteristics of nonformal education and extract the conditions for the successful implementation of CRT. As a result, the researcher found that not only the advancement of teaching ability but also re-establishing the role of teachers and supplementing the educational value of nonformal education were needed to implement CRT successfully. The researcher came to see that the implementation of CRT would be to improve the quality of adult nonformal education and to broaden the horizon of multicultural education.

이 연구는 미국에서 평등교수법의 일환으로 주목받고 있는‘문화반응교수’(CRT)가 우리 나라 성인 비형식교육 현장에도 구현될 필요가 있음을 주장하고, 그 성공 구현 조건을 탐색 하기 위한 목적에서 수행되었다. 실제 성인 비형식교육 현장에서 이주민과 정주민 통합교육 의 경험을 가진 5명의 성인 교수자를 연구 참여자로 선정하여 그들의 경험을 들여다봄으로써 성인 비형식교육의 맥락적 특징을 파악하는 가운데 문화반응교수의 적용 가능성을 검토하고 성공 구현을 위한 조건을 추출하는 작업을 진행하였다. 연구 결과, CRT 성공 구현을 위해서 는 교수자 본인의 문화적 역량 및 제반 능력 신장이 필요할 뿐 아니라, 성인교육의 목적 및 교수자 역할에 대한 인식 재고와 마케팅 차원으로 심하게 경도된 비형식교육의 의미와 가치 를 교육적으로 보충하는 작업이 선행되어야 함을 확인할 수 있었다.
