Due to the rapidly changing industrial structure, many regions in Korea are declining, which is a common problem among countries that have experienced industrial society. As a solution to this problem, there are cases where local competitiveness is strengthened through culture and local community revitalization. In particular, the project to create a creative studio using idle facilities such as outdated industrial facilities was carried out as a sustainable method in various countries. In the early 2000s, if creative studios focused on providing artist workshops and cultivating artists, they are now changing into complex cultural spaces and promoting community revitalization through the development of local culture and local community. Therefore, this study sought to explore the possibility of ceramic craft creative studio for the revitalization of the community and to explore the necessary parts and roles of the near future society in the contact point with art. As domestic cases Clayarck Gimhae Museum ‘Ceramic Creation Center’, Cerapia ‘Creation Workshop’ and Kwangju Ceramic Park ‘Traditional Craft Center’, as foreign cases ‘The Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts’ in the United States and ‘Medalta’ in Canada which were established based on local industrial facilities were analyzed. Lastly, the present status and characteristics of ‘Sindnag creative arcade’ and ‘Euljiro design and art project’ which were created to revitalize the old downtown of Seoul were analyzed and suggested a positive direction.

빠르게 변하는 산업구조로 인해 국내 많은 지역들이 쇠퇴하고 있다. 이는 산업사회를 겪은 나라들이 공통적으로 가지고 있는 문제이다. 이에 대한 해결 방안으로 문화를 통해 지역 경쟁력을 강화하여 지역사회 활성화에 성공한 사례들이 있다. 특히 다양한 나라에서 지속 가능한 방안으로 낙후된 산업시설 같은 유휴시설을 활용한 창작스튜디오 조성사업이 진행되었다. 2000년대 초 창작스튜디오가 작가 작업실 제공 및 작가 양성에 중점을 두었다면 현재는 복합문화공간으로 변화하면서 지역문화와 지역커뮤니티의 발전을 통해 지역사회 활성화를 도모하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 지역사회 활성화를 위한 도자공예 창작스튜디오의 가능성을 타진하고 가까운 미래사회가 예술과의 접점에서 필요한 부분과 역할에 대한 탐색을 도모하고자 하였다. 국내 사례로 클레이아크 김해미술관 ‘세라믹창작센터’, 세라피아 ‘창조공방’, 곤지암도자공원 ‘전통공예원’, 외국 사례로 지역 산업시설을 기반으로 설립된 미국의 ‘아치브레이파운데이션(The Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts)’, 캐나다의 ‘메달타(Medalta)’를 조사하였다. 마지막으로 서울 구도심 활성화를 위해 조성된 ‘신당창작아케이드’와 ‘을지로 디자인·예술 프로젝트’의 운영현황과 특성을 분석하여 긍정적 방향으로의 방안에 대한 제언을 했다.
