This study set out to review the research horizons of literary creative writing studies and their theoretical discussions’ achievements in the topography of Korean literature study and analyze all the trends and tendencies of the researches, diagnosing the current stage of research on literary creative writing studies and searching for the future direction of its research. For these purposes, the study reviewed the research history of literary creative writing studies, categorized its research domains, and examined the major topics for discussion and issues of each category among the papers published in The Journal of Literary Creative Writing, thus conducting a total inquiry into the achievements, limitations, and remaining tasks in the research of literary creative writing studies. The main body of the study 1) examined the backgrounds and developmental processes of literary creative writing studies, analyzed the characteristic aspects found in the process of literary creative writing studies establishing itself as a field of study, and reviewed and assessed the activities and achievements of the Society of Korea Literary Creative Writing involved in this process. 2) The study then selected 164 papers about the theories of literary creative writing among 460 papers published in The Journal of Literary Creative Writing, a total academic journal in the field of literary creative writing studies in the nation, making an attempt at categorization by the area and analyzing the research flows and issues by the domain. 3) The study analyzed keywords extracted from 268 papers published in the journal for the last ten years by the frequency of exposure, checked the current state and trends of research on literary creative writing at multiple angles, and proposed future tasks for the research of literary creative writing studies based on analysis results. The present study analyzed objective data with a quantitative approach to understand the actual and current state of research on literary creative writing studies more accurately. The analysis results will hold significance as basic data to establish the academic identity and system of literary creative writing studies. Based on these, more diverse follow-up studies will explore methodological directionality to settle literary creative writing studies down on the foundation of Korean studies via a qualitative approach.

이 연구는 한국문학 연구 지형에서 문예창작학 연구의 지평과 그 이론적논의의 성과를 점검하고 연구의 제 동향과 경향들을 분석하여 문예창작학연구의 현 단계를 진단하는 한편 앞으로의 연구의 방향을 모색하고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 본고에서는 『한국문예창작』에 수록된 논문들을 중심으로 문예창작학 연구사를 검토하고 문예창작학의 연구영역을 범주화하여 범주별로 주요하게 제기된 논제와 쟁점들을 살핌으로써 그간의 문예창작학 연구의 성과와 한계, 남겨진 과제들을 종합적으로 고찰하고 있다. 이 글의 본문에서는 1)먼저 문예창작학의 성립 배경과 전개 과정을 면밀히 추적하여 그 학문정체성의 토대를 이루는 것이 무엇인가를 규명하고자하였다. 문예창작교육이 대학 제도 내에서 전공학문영역으로 인정되고 독자적인 학문 분야로 자리잡는 과정에서의 특징적인 국면 및 양상을 분석하고, 이 과정에 관여한 한국문예창작학회의 활동 및 성과들을 검토하고 평가하였다. 2)다음으로 국내 문예창작학 분야의 유일한 종합학술지인 『한국문예창작』에 수록된 460편의 논문들 가운데 164편의 문예창작론을 다룬 연구논문을 선별하여 이론적 범주화를 시도하였으며, 분야별 연구의 흐름과 쟁점을 통시적으로 분석하였다. 3)이와 함께 최근 10년간 『한국문예창작』에수록된 268편의 연구논문에서 추출한 핵심어(Keyword)를 그 노출빈도수와연관관계를 기준으로 분석하여 문예창작 연구의 현황과 동향을 다각도로점검하였고 분석결과를 토대로 문예창작학 연구의 향후 과제들을 도출해내었다. 이 연구에서는 특히 문예창작학 연구의 실태와 현황을 보다 명확하게 파악하기 위해 양적 접근을 통한 객관적인 자료 분석과 질적 연구를 병행하였으며, 분석자료들은 『한국문예창작』을 중심으로 전개된 문예창작학연구의 경향과 전반적인 현황을 가늠할 수 있는 기초자료로 의의가 있을 것이다. 분석의 결과를 토대로 현 단계 문예창작학 연구 상황과 당면한 과제를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째 문예창작학의 학문적 정체성은 유동적이고 원심적으로 확산되는 경향을 보이지만 그 구심점은 매우 허약해져 있다는 것, 둘째 문예창작학의 학문적 역량을 강화하고 확대하기 위해서는 체계적이고실천적인 문예창작・교육이론의 기초토대연구가 시급하다는 것, 셋째 이를위해서는 장기적인 관점에서의 문예창작학 의제 설정이 중요하고, 이와 함께 지속적이고 실질적인 양적 성장이 필요하다는 것, 넷째 원론적인 논의에서 답보상태인 문예창작학 연구에 활력을 불어넣기 위해서는 개별대학의창작교육의 현장에서 발굴되는 수업사례연구 등과 같이 경험적 자원들을이론적으로 자원화하는 학문적 경주가 뒤따라야 한다는 것, 다섯째 이러한성과들을 교육과정에 매개하고 환류하는 선순환구조를 강화해 나가야 문예창작교육의 실효를 거둘 수 있을 것이라는 점이다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 본고는 현 단계 문예창작학 연구에 있어 우선적으로 요청되는 것은 문예창작론의 의미를 어떤 이념적 토대 위에서 가치화하는 관점이 있을 수 있는가에 관한 정교하고 체계적인 학적 접근과 독자적인개별 학문영역으로서의 배타적인 전문성을 강화하는 방향으로의 연구분야구조화, 그리고 이를 통한 문예창작학의 지식생산체제 정비이며, 다양한 인접학문영역과의 협력관계를 구축해 나가고 담론의 생산성과 활용성을 높이는 것은 이러한 토대 위에서라야 가능하다는 것을 주장하고 있다.
