The background and purpose of this research is to articulate how Graffiti and Street Art are managed and controlled by the City of Melbourne, and how these to contribute tourist attractions. The scope of this study was analyzed through the filed research on Hosier Lane, which is the center of Graffiti, and sixteen Street Art places suggested by the City of Melbourne. The research method was conducted through the website analyzation of the City of Melbourne, an interview with the art manager of the City of Melbourne, and a range of interviews with artists working in the field. In order to make a distinctive interview, the interview questions were simplified, preliminary focused and classified, the correlations were examined, and the number of questions was minimized to lead conclusions using a priori research method. The conclusion of this study can be summarized as following. To better understanding of the specific terminology of Graffiti, I conclude there should be accurate recognition from different meanings of Mural, Street Art, Public Art, etc., and needs are considered in choosing the terms under sufficient understanding. The conclusion also reveals a clear difference between the terms of Graffiti and Street Art.

본 연구배경 및 목적은 멜버른시에서 그라피티 (Graffiti)와 스트리트 아트(Street Art)를 어떻게 구 분하여 관리하며 행정적으로 그라피티와 스트리트 아 트를 통제하여 관광객의 볼거리 문화로 자리매김하게 되었는지 관점을 갖고 연구하였다. 연구범위는 멜버른시의 그라피티의 중심부인 호시 어 레인(Hosier Lane)거리와 멜버른시에서 정한 스 트리트 아트 거리(16곳)를 연구대상으로 실태조사를 통하여 분석하였다. 연구방법은 멜버른 시청의 인터 넷 사이트 조사와 멜버른 시청의 문화예술담당자 인 터뷰와 실제 현장에서 작업 중인 작가들을 대상으로 인터뷰 방식을 통하여 이루어졌다. 변별력 있는 인터 뷰가 이루어지도록 인터뷰 항목을 최소화하여 사전 점검 후 상관성을 검토하고 항목 수를 최소화하여 선 험적 연구방법으로 결론을 도출하였다. 본 연구의 결 론으로 멜버른 그라피티에 대한 관점을 요약하면 다 음과 같다. 그라피티에 대한 정확한 용어를 이해하는 데는 뮤 랄(Mural), 스트리트 아트, 공공예술 등의 의미를 정 확히 인식하여 충분한 이해 아래 용어선택에 신중하 여야 한다는 결론을 내렸다. 또한, 그라피티와 스트리 트 아트의 용어는 분명한 차이점이 있다는 결론을 내렸다.
