This study has an research on contents of labor education in elementary social studies textbooks according to the 2015 revised curriculum and identifies the problems and suggests the direction of labor education. Many students overlook the character of work as a subjective act related to human life by recognizing labor as the same passive concept as wage work. In social studies that seek to raise democratic citizens by strengthening the capacity of each student, it is necessary to guide human life in terms of labor through desirable discussions. Contents related to labor in the social studies textbooks of elementary school analyzed in this study are, firstly, limited to the role of means for maintaining life, so it is insufficient to understand the meaning of labor contributing to the state and society. Second, there is a lack of understanding of the relevance to daily life due to the failure to provide concretely the diversity of labor and the process of labor. In order to solve these problems, first, it is necessary to systemize the contents of social studies education in consideration of the meaning and status of labor directly related to life. Second, it is necessary to induce the recognition of positive values for labor by distributing and providing work-related contents on a global level. Third, provide specific examples according to the type and process of labor to understand that labor is an act of life. Fourth, by dealing with the work-related content at the individual, social, national and global levels, students should be encouraged to understand their labor as a whole and to demonstrate their competence as members of society.

본 연구는 2015 개정 교육과정에 따른 초등 사회 교과서에 나타난 노동교육 관련 내용을 분석하고 그 문제를 파악하여 노동교육의 방향을 제시하였다. 다수의 학생들은 노동을 임금노동과 동일한 수동 적 개념으로 인식함으로써 노동이 지닌 인간의 삶과 관련된 주체적 행위로서의 성격을 간과한다. 학생 개개인의 역량을 강화하여 민주시민을 기르고자 하는 사회과교육에서는 이에 대한 논의를 통하여 노 동과 관련한 인간의 삶을 바람직한 방향으로 유도할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서 분석한 초등학교 사회 과 교과서에서의 노동 관련 내용은 첫째, 노동을 생활을 유지하기 위한 수단 정도의 역할로 한정하여 기술함으로써 국가와 사회에 기여하는 노동의 의미를 이해하기에 부족하다. 둘째, 노동의 다양성과 노 동의 과정을 구체적으로 제공하지 못함으로써 일상생활과의 관련성을 이해하는 데 부족하고 학년 수 준에 따른 내용 간의 연계성 또한 부족하다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 첫째, 생활과 직접 연관되어 있는 노동의 의미와 위상을 고려하 여 사회과교육의 내용을 체계화할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 개인 차원의 노동 관련 내용을 세계 차원으로 확산, 제공하여 노동에 대한 긍정적 가치를 인식하도록 유도해야 한다. 셋째, 노동의 종류와 과정에 따른 구체적 사례를 제공하여 노동이 곧 삶의 행위임을 이해하도록 해야 한다. 넷째, 노동과 관련한 내용을 개인과 사회, 그리고 국가와 세계 수준에서 균형 있게 다룸으로써 학생들이 노동을 총체적으로 이해하여 사회 구성원으로서의 역량을 발휘하도록 유도해야 한다.
