This study analyzed the state of the publishment at the time, the currently handed-down versions, form and contents of the Sopa’s Fairy Tale Book series published during the Liberation period of the country. By doing so, the study conducted an in-depth examination on its publishment, structure, form and contents. Joseon Children Culture Association (Ahyeop), which tried hard to establish children’s culture, selected 36 pieces from the work of children’s literature of Bang Jeong-Hwan who devoted his whole life for children, and published totally five volumes of Sopa’s Fairy Tale Book. Though the number of its currently handed-down versions is not many, the study, as a result of analysis on them, found Sopa’s Fairy Tale Book had the same formation of ‘front cover-table of contents, title page-main text-back cover’. The main text was inserted with illustrations from each different artists (Kim Eu-Hwan, Jeong Hyun-Ung, Yoon Hee-Sun, Kim Gyu-Taek, Han Hong-Taek) for Bang Jeong-Hwan’s stories, giving it a credit as a pioneering publication plan. As a result of the analysis of its contents, 36 children’s stories were divided into adaptations, passed-down traditional stories and originals by and large based on literary form, It was composed of 18 adapted stories, 14 traditional ones, 4 originals, showing the high proportion of adapted and traditional stories. It was also confirmed that fairy tales of Sopa’s Fairy Tale Book were those already published at his only and single book of A Gift of Love (1922) and at Magazine Children (1923-29) in which he had much activity. It was identified as eight and 28 pieces respectively.

본 연구는 해방기에 출간된 <소파동화독본> 시리즈를 대상으로 당시 출판, 현전본의 현황, 체재 및 내용 분석을 통해 <소파동화독본>의 발행을 비롯한 체재, 형태, 내용에 대해 심도 있게 살펴보았다. 아동문화 구축에 힘쓴 조선아 동문화협회(아협)은 평생 어린이를 위했던 방정환의 아동문학 작품 중 36편을 선별하여 <소파동화독본> 전5권으로 구성하여 발행했다. <소파동화독본> 현전본의 수량이 많지 않으나 이를 대상으로 분석한 결과, 앞표지-목차 및 속지- 본문-판권기-뒤표지의 체재로 동일하게 구성되었다. 본문은 방정환의 글에 5권 각기 다른 화가(김의환, 정현웅, 윤희순, 김규택, 한홍택)의 삽화를 넣어 선구적인 출판기획으로 평가받았다. 내용 분석 결과, <소파동화독본>에 실린 36편 의 동화를 문학형식별로 구분하면 크게 번안ㆍ전래ㆍ창작동화로 나눌 수 있으며, 번안동화 18편, 전래동화 14편, 창작 동화 4편으로 번안 및 전래동화의 비중이 높았다. 또한 <소파동화독본>의 동화는 방정환의 유일한 단행본 『사랑의 선물』(1922)과 방정환의 활약이 컸던 잡지 <어린이>(1923-29)에서 이미 발표된 작품들로, 각각 8편, 28편이 이에 해당됨을 확인되었다.
