This study examines cases in which the “criteria for intercultural dialogue” are violated in conversations between a motherand her daughter-in-law and between married couples in the televised program, “Multicultural In-Law Wars,” to analyze discriminatory elements related to married female immigrants. The analyses of the dialogue were conducted based on James (1999)’s “criteria for intercultural dialogue.” The key points of this study can be summarized as follows: First, in the conversations between the mother- and daughters-in-law occurring on the show, it was found that the former frequently engaged in verbal acts of criticism towards the daughter-in-law prior to understanding. The daughters-in-law were then disappointed and hurt by the articulation of their mothers-in-law, who did not follow the “criteria for intercultural dialogue.” Second, it was also found that mothers-in-law and husbands spoke with daughters-in-law and wives in unfair conditions. As a result, married female immigrants were restricted from articulating their thoughts or were silenced altogether. Third, it was found that mothers-in-law communicated with their daughtersin-law with an attitude of closeness and distrust, thus demonstrating that mothers-in-law lack a culturally relativistic perspective. The analysis revealed that the “criteria for intercultural dialogue” were not included in the dialogue demonstrated by the media. This reveals a shortage in the multicultural receptiveness of mothers-in-law and their sons, who are native to the land in which the married couple lives; this is a significant factor that limits the ability of married female immigrants to adapt to Korean society. If Korean society is to become established as a multicultural society in which various cultures can coexist, broadcasts and legal and systematic devices related to multicultural elements should be supplemented to prevent such discrimination from occurring. Furthermore, Korean language education should be improved for married female immigrants. Social media should be used to improve the rate at which multicultural-related services, including education, are utilized. Moreover, consultation towards improving the receptiveness to various cultures should also be carried out for the sake of multicultural family members.

이 논문에서는 『다문화 고부 열전』의 고부간·부부간 대화에서 ‘상호문화 적 대화의 기준’을 위배한 경우를 살펴봄으로써, 결혼이주여성에 대한 차 별적 요소를 분석하였다. 담화 분석은 James(1999)의 ‘상호문화적 대화의 기준’을 바탕으로 수행하 였다. 이 연구의 논의를 요약하면 다음과 같다: 첫째, 『다문화 고부 열전』의 고부간 담화에서 시어머니는 며느리를 이해 해주기 전에 비판하는 화행을 자주 하는 것으로 나타났다. ‘상호문화적 대 화의 기준’을 지키지 않는 시어머니의 발화로 며느리는 속상해하고, 상처를 받는다. 둘째, 『다문화 고부 열전』의 고부간·부부간 담화에서 시어머니와 남편은 불공정한 조건에서 며느리·아내와 대화하는 것으로 나타났다. 이로 인해, 결혼이주여성은 발화를 제약받거나 침묵하게 된다. 셋째, 『다문화 고부 열전』의 고부간 담화에서 시어머니는 폐쇄와 불신의 태도로 며느리와 소통하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 시어머니에게 문화상대 주의적 관점이 결여된 것을 보여준다. 분석 결과, 미디어 속에서 일어나는 대화에서 ‘상호문화적 대화의 기준’이 지켜지지 않고 있었다. 이는 선주민인 시어머니와 남편의 다문화 수용성 이 떨어지는 것을 보여주며, 결혼이주여성이 한국 사회에 적응하는 데 큰 저해 요인이 된다. 앞으로 한국 사회가 여러 문화가 공존하는 다문화사회 로 정착하기 위해서는 이러한 차별이 이루어지지 않도록 방송과 다문화 관련 법적·제도적 장치가 보완되어야 한다. 그리고 결혼이주민을 위한 한 국어교육도 강화해야 한다. 교육을 포함한 다문화 관련 서비스의 이용률 향상을 위해 소셜미디어를 활용해야 한다. 아울러 다문화 가족 구성원의 다문화 수용성 향상을 위한 상담 등을 병행해야 할 것이다.
