This study aimed to investigate the meaning, practice, and needs of early childhood arts and culture education perceived by private kindergarten teaching staff. For this purpose, researcher conducted in-depth interviews with a total of 22 teaching staffs who work at private kindergartens in Seoul and Gyeonggi province, and the kindergartens were recommended to focus on arts and culture education. The data from the interviews were analyzed according to Krippendorff’s content analysis. The results were described in three dimensions: ‘meaning of early childhood arts and culture education’, ‘method of early childhood arts and culture education’, ‘needs of early childhood arts and culture education’. The categories in terms of the first dimension were “ambiguity in scope”, “lack of consensus point of view”, and “education connected with real life”. The categories of the second dimension were “culture and art events according to the director's interests”, “teachers' external linkage efforts”, and “education blended into daily activities”. Final categories were “financial supports”, “cooperation with professional art and culture professionals”, “teachers’ experiences for themselves”. Based on these results, suggestions raised the needs to provide the publicity for the arts and culture education projects carried out by various government departments, the customized supports to suit the needs of kindergartens, the establishment of models for cooperative teaching and collaborative classroom between teachers and professional instructors, and the arts and culture education for kindergarten teaching staffs.

본 연구는 사립유치원 교원들이 인식하고 있는 유아문화예술교육의 의미와 운영 및 요구에 대해 알아보았다. 이를 위해 문화예술교육에 중점을 두는 것으로 추천받은 서울과 경기지역 사립유치원들에 찾아가 총 22명의 교원들과 면담을 하였다. 면담을 통해 수집된 자료는 Krippendorff(2003)가 제시한 내용분석 절차와 방법에 따라 분석되었다. 연구결과는 3가지 차원으로 기술되었다. 유아문화예술교육의 의미 차원에서의 범주는 범위의 모호함, 합의된 관점 결여, 삶과 연결된 교육이었고, 유아문화예술교육의 방법 차원에서의 범주는 기관장의 관심에 따른 문화예술행사, 교사들의 외부연계 노력, 일과활동에 녹아든 교육이었으며 유아문화예술교육을 위한 요구 차원에서의 범주는 재정적인 지원, 전문 인력과의 협력, 유아교사의 자기 체험이었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로, 정부의 다양한 부처에서 수행하고 있는 유아문화예술교육 지원 사업에 대한 홍보, 유치원의 요구와 필요에 맞는 맞춤형 지원, 유아교사와 예술 강사 간 협력적 수업 운영에 대한 모델 구축, 일반교사는 물론 원장과 기관장을 포함한 유아교사 자신을 위한 문화예술교육의 필요성을 제언하였다.
