Forming one’s ethnic identity refers to the process that an individual who belongs to a certain ethnic group confirming the concept of his or her ethnic. This process can be achieved by interacting with another ethnic group to find internal and external commonality. This paper aims to investigate in what way the highly educated Korean Chinese have formed their ethnic identity, what difficulties they faced, and how they coped with these difficulties. For the purposes, eight Korean Chinese who finished graduate school in Korea and are working, studying, or living in Korea were interviewed. Three researchers consisted of a team, and to analyze the content of the interviews, the method of Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR) was used. Last, the implications for Korean society and for understanding Korean Chinese in Korea were discussed.

민족정체성을 형성한다는 것은 특정 집단에 속한 각 개인이 민족 개념에 대한 확인과정으로, 타민족과의 교류를 통해 내적 동질성과 외적 이질성을 찾는 것을 말한다. 본 연구는 한국에서 대학원을 졸업하고 직장 또는 결혼 생활을 하고 있는 조선족 청년 8명을대상으로 그들이 실제로 어떻게 민족정체성을 형성했는지와 그 과정에서 수반된 여러 고민들과 갈등을 어떻게 풀어가는지에 대해 알아보았다. 합의적 질적연구(CQR) 방법으로연구자 3명이 인터뷰 내용을 분석한 결과, '정체성 형성에 영향을 미치는 요인', '정체성확립', 그리고 '정체성 고민'의 세 가지 영역과 각 하위 범주들을 도출하였다. 마지막으로이러한 연구결과가 한국사회에 기여하는 바와 재한 조선족에 대한 이해에 있어 시사하는바를 중심으로 논의를 기술하였다.
