This study investigates the affecting factors and the economic value of tourist’s additional willingness-to-pay for the increasing probability of whale encounter on the whale-watching cruise to promote the whale eco-tourism in the Ulsan region. The estimation results of the binary logit models show that the additional willingness-topay increases significantly if a respondent is younger, more educated and non-resident in Ulsan, but it is inversely related to the income level. Especially the fact that a respondent with intention to visit or experience of visiting the Bangudae petroglyphs is willing to pay significantly high suggests the possibility of eco-tourism development linking whale-watching cruise and Bangudae petroglyphs. The estimation results of the conditional logit models using data from a stated preference experiment present that a respondent tends to prefer a choice alternative with the higher probability of whale encounter on the whale-watching cruise and the lower boarding fee and that the economic value of 10 percent increase in the probability of whale encounter is estimated to be KRW4,860 in average with the 95% confidence interval of KRW3,076~6,643.

본 연구는 울산지역 고래생태관광 활성화를 위하여 고래발견율의 상승에 따른 고래 바다여행선 관광객의 추가지불의사에 영향을 미치는 요인을 탐색하고 추가지불의사금액 을 추정하여 고래발견율 상승의 경제적 가치를 측정하였다. 로짓모형(logit model)의 추 정결과 교육수준이 높을수록, 연령과 소득이 낮을수록, 자신의 고래탐방이 승선 목적인 사람, 울산거주자보다 외지관광객의 추가지불의사가 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 그 리고 다른 고래관련 시설보다는 반구대 암각화 방문경험 또는 방문의사가 있는 사람의 추가지불의사가 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타나 고래바다여행선과 반구대 암각화 탐방을 연계하는 고래생태문화관광 개발의 가능성이 높은 것으로 판단된다. 명시선호실험 자료 를 이용한 조건부로짓모형(conditional logit model)의 추정결과 응답자는 고래발견율이 높거나 승선요금이 낮은 대안을 선호하는 것으로 나타났으며, 고래발견율 10% 상승의 일 인당 경제적 가치는 평균 4,860원으로 추정되었고 95% 신뢰구간은 3,076원〜6,643원으로 나타났다.
