Among American evangelicals, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is the most influential denomination for the conservative Christianity movement. W. A. Criswell (December 19, 1909-January 10, 2002) as a leading figure among Southern Baptists accomplished tremendous work in his sixty-three-years of ministry. His ministry became an icon of megachurch models in the seventies and eighties. Most of all, this Scripture reference-“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand forever”(Isa 40:8) mirrors the life and ministry of Criswell, the preacher who stood firmly on the Word of God. Criswell is a patriarch of modern-day conservative Southern Baptists. Criswell, along with R. G. Lee and Leo Eddleman, struggled to keep the SBC adhering to conservative doctrines such as biblical centered ministry. This paper will demonstrate his homiletical contexts, his theological foundation, and lastly homiletical analysis.

미국 복음주의 기독교에서 남침례교는 보수주의 기독교 운동 에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 교단이다. W.A. 크리스웰(1909년 12월 19 일-2002년 1월 10일)은 남침례교단을 이끌었던 핵심 지도자로서 63년간의 사역 동안 많은 업적을 남기게 되었다. 칼빈주의 신학 을 가졌던 크리스웰은 1970년대와 80년대에 대표적인 설교자로 알려져 있다. 하지만, 무엇보다도 “풀은 마르고 꽃은 시드나 우리 하나님의 말씀은 영원히 서리라 하라(사 40장 8절, 개역개정)”의 성경구절은 그의 삶과 사역, 특히 성경말씀에 견고히 서있는 설 교자로의 모습을 잘 보여준다. 본 연구에서는 크리스웰의 설교상 황분석과 설교철학의 변화와 그의 신학적 선전제와 설교기술을 분석한다.
