The purpose of this study is to clarify the limitations of existing methods of value theory justification of physical education and to suggest a new direction of the justification. For this purpose, the historical background and the necessity about justification of value in physical education are mentioned. Also, the existing justification methods of physical education were analyzed from the cultural, hedonistic, and ethical perspectives, and their significance and limitations were discussed. Based on this, a new direction of justification of physical education was proposed in terms of 'value analysis based on historical practice and tradition', 'value judgment considering human subjectivity', and 'distinguishing the value of education from the value of academic discipline'. Through this, focusing on the inherent value of physical education, it is hoped that discussions about justification will be expanded beyond the justification method based on general theories of education.

본 연구의 목적은 기존 체육 교육의 가치론적 정당화의 방식이 갖는 한계를 밝히고 정당화의 새로운 방향을 제시하 는 것이다. 이를 위해 체육 교육의 가치론적 정당화의 역사적 배경과 그 필요성을 언급하였다. 또한 기존 체육 교육 의 정당화 방식을 문화적 관점, 쾌락주의적 관점, 윤리적 관점에서 분석하고, 그 의의와 한계점을 논의하였다. 이를 바탕으로 체육 교육의 정당화의 새로운 방향을 ‘역사적 실천과 전통에 근거한 가치 분석’, ‘인간 주체성을 고려한 가치 판단’, ‘교육의 가치와 학문의 가치 구분’ 측면에서 제안하였다. 이러한 가치 논의를 통해 교육 일반론에 입각 한 정당화 방식을 넘어 체육 교육 고유의 가치를 중심으로 정당화 논의가 확장되기를 희망하였다.
