This paper is a practical study on the learning activities of food issues in “Current Events Japanese Language” classes. In these classes, various social issues are taken up using a variety of news reports. Among the objectives of these learning activities is that we can examine if a learner’s underlying knowledge, beliefs, and habitual assumptions can be changed through critical thinking, in addition to the improvement of the learner's Japanese language ability, language knowledge and language skills. In this study, the outline of the classes and activities were given. Specific procedures and achievements for the activities (Activity 1, Activity 2, and Reflection Activity) were presented. In Activities 1 and 2, the learning activities (watching videos, reading materials, etc.) are presented for the purpose of raising doubts about the knowledge acquired from learning and experience, or by the interpretations or judgments that the learners have acquired over time. Through this process, learners grasp the reality and problems which need to be solved in regards to food issues. At the same time, learners may rethink their confusion or doubts on this topic and discuss what they can do to create solutions with others. Moreover, through reflection activities that consciously reflect on the learning process, learners perform self-assessment and generate a detailed description of their perspective changes, through before and after activities. An analysis of the contents of worksheets 1 and 2 as well as the reflection sheets by the learners during or after the activities, revealed that the change of their beliefs or assumptions can be positively confirmed. These results show that activities based on “Critical Content-Based Language Instruction” like this learning activity might be an opportunity to facilitate the expansion and deepening of the learner's perspectives, concerning specific content or topics. Furthermore, it suggests the possibility of bringing about a change of the learners' particular view of the world through Japanese language education that is focused on topics that relate to society.

본고는 『시사일본어』 수업 중 ‘식량문제’를 둘러싼 학습활동을 중심으로 한 실천보고이다. 수업에서는 뉴스를 제재로 다양한 사회문제를 다루면서, 언어지식이나 스킬과 같은 일본어능력의 향상뿐만 아니라 해당 토픽에 대한 학습자 자신의 지식과 사고방식, 습관적 전제 등을 비판적으로 성찰하여 새롭게 인식하도록 하는 의식・시점・태도의 육성을 꾀하였다. 우선 수업 및 활동 개요를 간략히 기술하고, ‘식량문제’에 관한 학습활동(활동Ⅰ, 활동Ⅱ, 내성활동)의 구체적인 절차와 내용, 성과에 대해 보고하였다. 활동Ⅰ,Ⅱ에서는 ‘식량문제’에 대해 종래의 학습과 경험으로 익힌 지식이나 이에 근거한 해석, 판단, 행동 등에 의문을 던지는 학습활동(영상 시청, 읽기자료 강독 등)을 통해, 현 실태와 문제점을 파악함과 동시에 각자 느낀 혼란이나 의문에 대해 재고하고 문제해결을 위해 자신이 할 수 있는 것 등을 타인과 공유하면서 논의하는 활동을 행하였다. 그리고 이러한 학습과정을 의식적으로 되돌아보는 내성활동을 통해, 활동 전후의 인식 변화에 대해 스스로 진단하고 구체적으로 기술하게 하였다. 이와 같은 학습활동 중 혹은 후에 학습자가 작성한 워크시트1, 2와 내성시트의 기술내용을 분석한 결과, 학습자 인식의 변용 양상을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 통해, 본 학습활동과 같은 ‘내용중시의 비판적 언어교육’에 기반한 활동이 내용(토픽)에 대한 인식의 확대・심화를 촉진하는 계기가 될 수 있으며, 나아가 사회와 연계된 일본어교육을 통해 개개인의 인식 변용과 함께 사회적 행동의 변화를 이끌어 낼 수 있다는 가능성을 엿볼 수 있었다.
