Looking over literary works which are filled with China’s own ecological imagination and awareness of life, I searched the values and meanings which can be shifted from classics to modern times. At this point in time when the ecological unbalance problem rises seriously and a new understanding of humanities on Human, I try to examine how humans have balanced their life with the otherness and will build complementary relations with them in the future. In this paper, ecological views projected in Ghosts and Wizards(󰡔聊齋志異󰡕) which is a representative collection of short stories in the Qing Dynasty Period are classified into three types and the characteristics of their awareness of life are discussed. The ecological imagination sought by Pu Songling is analyzed into what meanings were implied according to the method of relations between humans and otherness. First of all, the symbiosis consciousness and interdependency can be found from the reciprocal relationship between humans and otherness. A warning to the human cruelty and a longing for the ideal world can be found from the oppositive relationship. The pursuit of equality of life values by collapsing the disconnected boundary can be found from the inter-compatible relationship. It is necessary that we should agonize seriously over life and try to live in symbiosis at every level in order to pursue the balanced compromise point where human can coexist with nature. The reinterpretation of the relationship between humans and otherness from the viewpoint of ecological imagination must be not only an argument on life at the dimension of biology but also an effort of worth for the restoration of social and cultural relations between humans and otherness.

본 논문은 중국 고유의 생태적 상상력과 생명의식이 담겨진 작품을 살펴보면서 고전에서 현대로 변통될 수 있는 생태적 세계관과 의미를 탐색하고자 했다. 생태학적 불균형 문제가 심각하게 대두되고 ‘인간’에 대한 새로운 인문학적 이해가 시도되는 현시점에서, 인간은 타자와 어떻게 생명의 균형을 이루어 왔고 어떻게 상보적인 관계로 나갈 수 있는지 살펴보고자 했다. 『聊齋志異』는 지괴와 전기의 계통을 잇는 청대의 대표적인 문언 단편소설집이다. 『요재지이』에 투영된 생태적 세계관의 유형을 세 가지로 분류하고 생명의식의 특징을 논의했다. 포송령이 추구했던 생태적 상상력은 인간과 이물이 관계 맺는 방식에 따라 어떤 의미를 함축하고 있는지 분석했다. 먼저 인간과 이물의 호혜적 관계에서는 공생의식과 상호의존성을, 대립적 관계에서는 인간의 잔악함에 대한 경고와 이상세계에 대한 갈망을, 호환적 관계에서는 단절된 경계를 와해시켜 생명 가치의 평등함을 추구하려는 의미를 살필 수 있었다. 인간과 자연이 공존할 수 있는 균형있는 절충점을 모색하기 위하여 생명에 관해 진지하게 고민하고 공생을 위한 다각도의 노력이 필요하다. 생태적 상상력의 관점에서 인간과 이물의 관계를 재해석하는 것은 단지 생명에 대한 생물학적 차원의 논증을 넘어서 인간과 타자의 사회문화적 관계 회복을 위한 실질적인 노력의 일환이라고 할 수 있다.
