In this paper I notice a copy of a letter written in 1424 included in Liber Officii Provisionis Romanie . Its content shows that the Genoese government is shocked because they have known that the Genoese in Pera, where is their important colony given by the Byzantine emperor, negotiates with Murad II in relation to the construction of a tower with his ‘tughra’ in Pera secretly. I analyzed each consciousness of the Genoese government and of the Genoese in Pera through this source. A difference in consciousness can be seen between them. The reason for the Genoese in Pera to do so derives from the historical background of the activity of the Genoese in ‘Romania’. It should be natural for them to cope with the reality there, where the history of the Byzantine Empire and of the Ottoman Empire developed complicatedly. It sometimes resulted in their cooperation with Ottoman Empire.

본고에서 필자는 Liber Officii Provisionis Romanie 에 첨부된, 1424년에 씌여진 서간 1통의 복사본에 주목하였다. 해당 서신의 내용에서 제노바 정부는 비잔틴 제국의 황제로부터 하사받은 중요한 식민지였던 페라(Pera)에 거주하는 제노바 사람들이 현지의 ‘tughra'와 함께 거대한 탑을 세우는 일에 대해 비밀 리에 무라드 2세(Murad II)와 협상 중이었다는 사실을 알고서 대단히 충격을 받았다는 점을 언급하고 있다. 본 필자는 이러한 분석과 내용을 통하여 제노바 본국의 정부, 그리고 페라 현지의 제노바 인들 간의 각각 서로 다른 의식 상태 를 인지하게 되었다. 이들은 서로 매우 다른 의식의 차이를 보여주고 있었던 것 이다. 페라 식민지에서 제노바 인들이 그렇게 행동할 수 있었던 이유는 식민지 로마니아에서 제노바 인들이 활동해 왔던 그 역사적 배경에서 비롯된 것이다. 비잔틴 제국과 오트만 제국이 서로 매우 미묘하게 얽혀 있었던 그들의 역사적 현실에 대응하는 것은 지극히 당연한 일이었다. 그들은 종종 오트만 제국과도 긴밀한 협력을 유지하기도 했었다.
