At present, the elderly population in Korea as well as in many countries around the world is steadily increasing over the proportion of the youth and senior population. As a result, a new culture demanded by the older generation and the consumer market targeting them are expanding. In particular, the emergence of a virtual assistant that helps enable communication in the rapidly evolving digital media environment is a great achievement that modern high-tech science provides to the aged generation. This study considered and proposed a new image in terms of visual image analysis and design development the mechanism of a virtual secretary who is compatible with the personal and social realities of such an aged generation and is able to communicate efficiently. The age groups under the survey were soon set up for research among those in their late 50s and post-50s who were incorporated into the aged population, and the gender and image of their preferred virtual secretary were investigated and analyzed in the primary sample group. The character of the virtual secretary, derived by image preference analysis, was overwhelmingly dominated by women who felt Korean emotions and suggested a virtual secretary face image by setting it as a basic material. Based on this study, the image of virtual assistant best suited for the future aged generation has been identified as a woman of Korean image, and it predicts that it will be a pattern of digital virtual assistant image that will coexist with all generations of humans as well as the elderly population in the not-too-distant future. In addition, image design of virtual assistant should be complemented and expanded by the evolving future world of artificial intelligence and digital technology.

현재 우리나라 뿐 만 아니라 세계 많은 나라들의 노령인구 층은 청․장년층 인구의 비율보다 꾸준히 증가하고 있다. 이에 따라 노령세대가 요구하는 새로운 문화와 그들을 대상으로 하는 소비 시장이 확장되고 있다. 특히 급속한 발전을 거듭하고 있는 디지털 미디어 환경에서 커뮤니케이션이 가능하도록 도와주는 가상비서(Virtual Assistant)의 출현은 현대 첨단과학이 노령세대에게 제공하는 큰 성과라고 할 수 있겠다. 본 연구는 그러한 노령세대의 개인적, 사회적 현실에 부합되며 효율성 높은 의사소통이 가능한 가상비서의 메커니즘을 시각적 이미지 분석과 디자인 개발 측면에서 고찰하고 새로운 이미지를 제안하고자 하였다. 조사 분석 대상 연령층은 머지않아 노령인구에 편입되는 50대 후반 이후의 장․노년층을 연구 대상으로 설정하였으며, 1차 표본 집단을 대상으로 그들이 선호하는 가상비서의 성별과 이미지를 조사 분석하였다. 이미지 선호도 분석에 의해 도출된 가상비서의 캐릭터는 한국적 정서가 느껴지는 여성이 압도적으로 우세하였으며 그것을 기본 소재로 설정하여 가상비서 얼굴 이미지를 제안 하였다. 이 연구를 통하여 미래 노령세대에게 가장 적합한 가상비서 이미지는 한국적 이미지의 여성으로 확인되었으며, 그것은 멀지 않은 미래에 노령인구 뿐만 아니라 모든 세대의 인간과 공존하게 될 디지털 가상비서 이미지의 한 패턴이 될 것으로 예측한다. 또한 진화를 거듭하고 있는 인공지능과 디지털 테크놀로지가 앞으로 전개해 나갈 미래 세계를 예측하여 가상비서 이미지 디자인도 고도의 감성 커뮤니케이션 기능을 보완해 나아가야 하겠다.
