Seokbosangjeol can be divided into “the Biography of the Buddha” and “the Translations of the Buddhist Scriptures” based on the context. Among the existing books, the vol. 3, vol. 6, parts of vol. 11, vol. 23 and vol. 24 belongs to the former Category, and the vol. 9 (Bhaiṣājya guru-Vaiḍūrya sutra), parts of vol. 11 (Ksitigarpha purva-pranidhana sutra), vol. 13, vol. 19, vol. 20, and vol. 21 (Saddharma Puṇḍarīka Sūtra) belong to the latter category of Seokbosangjeol. The relation between the translation and the original text of Seokbosangjeol is basically a one-on-one correspondence between words, whether it is part of “the Biography of Buddha” or part of “the Translation of the Buddhist Scriptures.” In other words, a word in the original can be accurately matched with a word in the translation. In the first category of Seokbosangjeol consisting of ‘Buddha’s Biography’ from vol. 23 and vol. 24, there are two cases of differences that occur. The first being the typical word-to-word translation from the original Chinese character and the other being the atypical case, where there are missing characters. The former case shows three sub-types of differences. First, there was no change in the location of characters or placement of words. Second, elimination of words that are unnecessary to the context. And third, where extra words or adjectives were added that were not there in the original text. In the latter case, there occurs 4 sup-types of differences. The first is the translations made based on the meaning of the characters. The second is change in the placement of the words. Third is adding extra adjectives that were not in the original context. And fourth is eliminating the expressions that seem to be odd in the Korean context or culture.

『釋譜詳節』은 내용을 기준으로 “釋尊의 傳記” 부분과 “佛經 飜譯” 부분으로 나눌 수 있다. 현존본 중에서 전자는 권3, 6, 11의 일부, 23, 24가 속하고, 후자는 권9(藥師經), 11의 일부(地藏經), 13, 19, 20, 21(이상 法華經)이 속한다. 『석보상절』의 諺解文과 原文은 “석존의 전기” 부분이든 “불경 번역” 부분이든 기본적으로 단어 대 단어의 관계가 1대1로 대응되는 관계이 다. 즉 원문의 한 단어를 언해문의 한 단어와 정확하게 대응시킬 수 있다. “석존의 전기” 부분에 해당하는 『석보상절』 권23․ 24의 언해문과 저경의 한문 원문을 비교해 보면, 크게 언해문과 원문이 1대1 대응이 되는 전형적인 경우와 원문과 언해문이 1대1 대응이 되지 않는 비전형적인 두 가지 경우가 있는데, 전자는 다시, 첫째 한문 원문의 구절들의 위치 변화가 없는 경우, 둘째 번거로움을 피하기 위해 저경의 일부분을 생략한 경우, 셋째 저경인 『釋迦譜』의 저경을 보충하는 경우가 있다. 후자는, 첫째 저경의 한문 원문을 단순히 의역한 경우, 둘째 문장 구성 성분의 위치 변화가 있는 경우, 셋째 저경에 없는 부분을 삽입한 경우, 넷째 우리의 情緖에 맞지 않는 표현을 생략하는 경우가 있다.
