This study aims to identify the various tasks to be solved and related issues which are theoretical and practical, when a university tries to improve its liberal arts education curriculum based on systematic approach. For this, characteristics of the knowledge-based-society and the 4th industrial revolution were reviewed and the improvement patterns of liberal arts curriculum in the universities and its limitations were discussed. Based on the review, the improvement tasks of liberal arts curriculum is concluded to need more systematic approach with perspectives of performance technology to understand all kinds of works and issues in the process of curriculum improvement. As result, the steps of systematic approach to improve the liberal arts curriculum were categorized into six phases.: Forming Foundation, Analysis, Curriculum Design, Course Development, Implementation, Evaluation. And more than 20 tasks and issues in total phases were derived and explained.

이 연구는 대학이 교양교육과정의 적극적인 개선 주체가 되어 스스로 그 과정을 개선하고자 할 때 해결해야 할 여러 과제와 그 때 제기되는 다양한 이론적, 실천적 쟁점을 수행공학의 관점 에서 체제적 접근에 따라 단계별로 구분하고, 각 단계별 과제와 쟁점을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 대학 교양교육과정의 변화를 야기하는 대외적인 요인으로 사회적 요구의 변화에 대해 지식정보화사회 및 4차 산업혁명의 특징을 중심으로 살펴보고, 그에 따라 한국 대학의 교양교육 과정이 대응해 온 변화 과정과 한계점을 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 대학의 교양교육과정이 효과적으 로 개선되려면 대학이 교육과정 개선의 적극적인 주체가 되고 수행공학의 관점에서 체제적으로 접근하는 것이 도움이 된다고 보고 교양교육과정 개선과정에서 도출되는 과제와 이슈를 체제적 접근에 따라 분류하였다. 그 결과 교양교육과정 개선업무의 수행단계는 기반 형성, 분석, 교육과 정 설계, 교과목 개발, 실행, 평가 등 여섯 국면으로 범주화되었으며, 이들 범주에서 20여개의 과 제 및 이슈가 도출되고 설명되었다.
