The aim of this study is to explore vocational high school graduates' adaptation and learning attitude towards college English classes. To achieve the research goal, research interviews were performed as a qualitative research method. The researcher collected the 12 participants through purposive sampling technique, and semi-constructed individual interviews with each participant were conducted three times. The findings of the study showed that vocational high school graduates had difficulties studying English at college classes due to their lack of English knowledge, which led to learning anxiety. Nevertheless, they had the desire of learning English and learning motivation, and expected to get support for English learning method. This study stems from the attention for vocational high school graduates who haven't had sufficient opportunities for learning English before entering college. This study suggests that providing basic English education programs for those who have been isolated from English education would improve outcomes for English learners through college education. This study also implies the necessity of college support and help for vocational high school graduates not only for their English learning but also for motivational improvements.

본 연구는 특성화고 졸업생들이 대학의 영어수업에 적응하는 과정과 학습 태도를 고찰하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구는 질적 연구방법으로 면담조사를 실시하였다. 연구자가 목적 샘플 링 기법(purposive sampling technique)으로 모집한 12명의 참여자를 대상으로 3회에 걸쳐 반구조적인 (semi-constructed)면담조사를 진행하였다. 연구 결과, 특성화고 졸업생들은 대학의 영어 학업을 수행하는데 있어서 사전 학습의 결여로 인하여 어려움을 겪고 있었으며 누적된 학습 결핍은 영어 학습에 대한 불안감으로 나타났다. 그 럼에도 영어를 잘 하고 싶은 욕구와 학습 동기를 가지고 있으며 더불어 영어 학습법에 대한 도움 을 기대하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 대학 입학 이전 단계에서 충분한 영어 학습 기회를 갖지 못한 특성화 고등학교 졸 업생들에 대한 관심으로부터 출발하였다. 영어교육에서 소외되었던 학습자들이 대학교육을 통 하여 성공적인 영어 학습자가 될 수 있도록 기초 수준의 영어 교육프로그램을 제공하는 것을 제 언한다. 또한 특성화고 졸업생들의 영어 학습 못지않게 학습자들의 동기 고취 등을 위한 다양한 동기 프로그램에 대한 학교 차원의 관심과 지원도 필요함을 시사한다.
