This research examined the lifework of Park Soon Ie, founding of Choong Hyun Babies Home, birth of social welfare services, and the mission of passing on the foundational spirit from the Korean war orphanages to Korean overseas adoptees in the Globalized society. The analysis of research materials was conducted through utilization of the private literary resources and interview materials. The result of the study is as follows: First, Park Soon Ie overcame historical devastation during the time of bleak Korean modern time and founded Choong Hyun Babies Home and thereby, demonstrated the spirit of respect for human lives. This spirit has been disseminated through various means in the present day. Secondly, the social welfare service for orphans served to lay the foundation for the general social welfare services for the Korean society at large, pioneering and promoting de-institutionalized form of social care, such as treatment and preventive care. Park Soon Ie’s spirit of respect for human lives should be celebrated and propagated through reflection and utilization of Choong Hyun Babies Home as a modern historical and cultural heritage, as a historical museum for caring for wounds of Korean war orphans and overseas adoptees, etc. Lastly, the efforts to globalize Park Soon Ie’s spirit of respect for lives is the globalization of Gwangju and Korea as well as our responsibility for the next generation.

이 연구는 박순이 선생의 삶의 궤적, 충현원 설립, 사회복지 태동, 그리고 전쟁고아원에서 글로벌 시대 해외입양 한인들로 이어지는 정신계승 사업 등을 고찰하였다. 연구자료 분석은 연구자의 개인소장 문헌 자료와 면접조사 자료의 활용을 통해 이뤄졌다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 박순이 선생은 암울했 던 한국근현대사의 역사적 질곡을 극복하고 충현영아원을 설립하여 전쟁고아들을 위해 생명존중정신을 몸소 실천하였으며. 그 정신은 지금까지도 다양한 방법으로 계승되고 있다. 둘째, 고아원 사회복지는 초 기 한국사회복지의 기틀을 제공하였으며, 치료 사업에서 예방 사업이라는 탈시설화의 주창으로 새로운 지평을 개척하였다. 이러한 박 선생의 생명존중의 정신은 충현원의 근대문화유산으로서의 역사적 가치 제고와 활용, 전쟁고 아와 해외입양 한인의 상처를 치유하는 역사박물관의 건립으로 승화되고 계승되어야 할 것이다. 마지막 으로 박순이 선생의 생명존중정신의 글로벌적 확산 운동은 광주와 한국의 글로벌화이며, 다음세대를 위 한 우리들의 책무이다.
