Calderón de la Barca’s El gran teatro del mundo is the auto sacramental that dramatizes the universal conception of life in the 17th century. On this auto sacramental there are three basic ideas. First of all, life is like a play. The next thing is that our lives are fleeting and short. The last thing that matters is to do good. That’s because you can go to the eternal true world with salvation. Its theme is that simply the life is a theater. And just as performing a good performance draws applause at the end of a play, performing a good deed in one’s life results in compensation from the God at the end of one’s life. El gran teatro del mundo deals with Christian morality with which one can overcome the nihilism in the earthly world. It also reveals the social, political and economic dominant ideology of the 17th century that each one should be faithful to its role instead of being dissatisfied with its role in the this world, because what is truly important to humans is not the current situation but the next world. However, in its deep structure other aspects are latent. This auto sacramental takes the form of an analysis of human life based on the existence of social classes, revealing the unequal relationship that exists among social classes. Although this play speaks of the moral and religious theme of achieving salvation in the next world and essential equality in the next world through conformity and good deeds in the present, the problem of social inequality is exposed behind it. After all, Calderón de la Barca’ El gran teatro del mundo calls for religious equality and Christian morality, but behind it, false pretensions and egalitarian views justify suppressing social inequalities and achieving dominance.

깔데론 데 라 바르까의 『세상이라는 거대한 연극』은 17세기에 널리 퍼진 인생에 대한 보 편적인 관념을 연극화한 성체극이다. 이 성체극에는 세 가지 전제가 들어있다. 우선 인생은 연극 과 같다는 것이다. 다음은 우리 인생은 덧없고 짧다는 것이다. 마지막으로는 중요한 것은 선행하 는 것이다. 그렇게 해야 구원을 받아 신과 함께하는 진정한 세계에 갈 수 있기 때문이다. 작품의 주제는 단순하다. 인생이 연극이라는 것이다. 그리고 연극에서 좋은 연기를 하면 연극이 끝나고 박수를 받듯이, 인생에서 각자 역할에 불만을 갖지 않고 역할을 충실히 하면서 좋은 일을 하면 인 생의 마지막 순간에 신으로부터 보상을 받게 된다. 『세상이라는 거대한 연극』은 지상에서의 허무 주의를 극복할 수 있는 기독교 도덕을 다루면서 인간에게 진정으로 중요한 것은 현세가 아니라 내세이기 때문에 연극과도 같은 현세에서의 역할에 불만을 갖지 말고 각자 역할에 충실해야 한다 는 당대의 정치 · 사회 · 경제적 지배이데올로기를 드러낸다. 그러나 작품의 심층 구조에는 다른 측 면이 잠재해 있다. 이 작품은 사회계급의 존재에 기초한 인간생활 분석의 형태를 취하면서, 사회 계급간에 존재하는 불평등한 관계를 노정하고 있다. 비록 작품이 현세에서의 순응과 선행을 통해 서 내세에서의 구원과 내세에서의 본질적인 평등성을 이룰 수 있다는 도덕적이고 종교적인 주제 를 말하고 있으나, 작품의 이면에는 사회적 불평등성에 대한 문제가 드러나기 때문이다. 결국 깔 데론 데 라 바르까의 『세상이라는 거대한 연극』은 현세에서의 선행을 통하여 내세에서 구원을 받 으면 신분의 귀천 없이 모두가 똑같다는 종교적인 평등성과 기독교적인 도덕성을 내세우면서도 그 이면에서는 허위적인 내세관과 평등관이 사회적 불평등을 억압하고 지배이데올로기를 정당화 하고 있다.
