In modern times, we live in an era of convergence. Recently, trans-boundary trends in the fashion industry have brought changes across art and culture. Such change started with a combination between beauty makeup and face painting. In the beginning, makeup with well-defined features was prevalent. Now, with the emergence of non-uniform, unprecedented styles, makeup delivers deep impressions through collections after an elaborate combination with face painting, which emphasizes the transfer of images. This study attempted to suggest diverse face painting patterns with artistic forms and colors by reinterpreting the bold colors of Henri Matisse (1869-1954), which have had a significant influence across art fields. In other words, it aimed to examine the potential of the styles that can be applied to eye makeup or other looks in which a face is partially emphasized. In terms of research methods, a literature review as performed through diverse texts, focusing on his art world and formative characteristics. In addition, according to analysis of related exhibitions and art collections, traces of bold touches and color expressions were created. It is anticipated that the unique artistic aspects of face painting would help instructors have a better understanding of creativity development for students and evolve into a new genre of beauty art.

현대는 융합의 시대이다. 최근 패션산업의 탈 경계적인 현상은 예술문화 전반에 변화를 가져오게되었다. 그 변화의 바람은 뷰티메이크업의 ‘페이스페인팅’과의 접목이다. 초창기에는 룩에 맞는 이목구비가 뚜렷한 메이크업의 형태를 선보였다면, 이제는 탈정형적이면서 파격적인 디자인이 대두되면서 메이크업은 보다 감각적이면서 이미지전달의 의미를 부각시킨 페이스페인팅과의 절묘한 만남을이루어 컬렉션을 통해 깊은 인상을 전해주게 되었다. 본 연구는 모든 예술영역에 많은 영향을 미치고 있는 마티스(Henri Matisse, 1869-1954)의 대담한색채이미지를 컬렉션에 재해석해 봄으로서 예술적 형태와 색채를 띤 다양한 페이스페인팅 디자인을제시해보고자 한다. 즉 얼굴의 일부분을 강조하거나 아이메이크업을 강조한 룩에 새롭게 활용할 수있는 디자인의 가능성을 모색해 보고자 함에 그 목적이 있다. 연구방법은 그의 작품세계와 조형적 특성을 중심으로 다양한 텍스트를 통한 문헌연구와 관련된 전시회, 작품집을 통한 분석연구를 토대로 대담한 터치의 흔적과 색채의 표현력을 더욱 생생하도록 제작 및 디자인연구를 위주로 한다. 교육현장에서 페이스페인팅의 독특한 예술적 감성은 학생들의 창의성개발에 이해를 높일 수 있으며, 새로운 뷰티예술의 장르로서 역할 가능성이 클 것으로 기대해 본다.
