The purpose of this study is to examine the identity and expertise of art instructors in elementary schools. The study was conducted through interviews with elementary school teachers on site, as well as based on the theoretical consideration on expertise. The expertise of art instructors defined in the study is summarized as firm beliefs of individual art instructors, interpersonal relationships and communications skills of art instructors with surrounding officials, steady self-management of artistic instructors of their own artistic capabilities. From the interviews with elementary school teachers, the result was drawn that art instructors were asked to be equipped with the ability to be naturally incorporated into particularities of each school and its curriculum, as well as to communicate continuously with peers on site, to cope with various unexpected situations that may occur in the field of eduction and preparation. With regard to the results of the study, the implications are significant in that it shows that art instructors can present various guidelines and directions for the preparation of art education at the level of elementary education in the future.

본 연구는 초등학교 현장에서의 예술 강사들의 정체성과 전문성에 대하여 고찰해 보는 연구로서 전문성에 대한 이 론적인 고찰과 더불어, 현장의 초등 교사들과의 인터뷰를 통해 연구를 진행했다. 본 연구에서 정의된 예술 강사의 전문성은 예술 강사 본인의 교육에 대한 확고한 가치관, 현장의 교사 등 주변 관계자들과의 대인관계와 의사소통능 력, 예술 강사 자신의 예술적 능력에 대한 꾸준한 자기관리 등으로 예술 강사의 전문성을 정리할 수 있었다. 초등학 교 현장 교사들과의 인터뷰 결과 초등 교육 현장에서 예술 강사들에게 요구되어지는 역할에 대한 답변으로, 예술 강사의 전문성을 해당학교의 특색이나 교육과정에 자연히 녹아들 수 있는 방법에 대한 연구, 예술 강사들과 현장의 교사들의 끊임없는 소통, 초등학생에 대한 이해와 교육 현장에서 일어날 수 있는 다양한 돌발 상황에 대한 대처와 이에 대한 준비를 요구했다. 연구 결과와 관련하여 향후 예술 강사들이 초등교육현장에서 예술교육 준비에 대한 다 양한 방향을 제시할 수 있는 점에서 시사점이 크다고 생각된다.
