This study focuses on the archetype of myths in literature, and analysis in particular the Metamorphosis-motifs in mythical motifs, and analysis in particular the Metamorphosis-motifs in mythical motifs, them in the drama “Beauty Inside”. Myth is a universal and essential story that provides a common narrative structure of literature. In other words, myths represent what is inherently natural to humans through any framework of principles, which becomes a narrative system with a similar structure. Comparing and analyzing myths and contemporary works helps to explore the transformational patterns of creative techniques and the true values and the awareness of the subject. To do this, I made the beauty text that was broadcast on JTBC in 2018 as the target text. The attention to this work is that the narrative structure shown here is suitable for the concept of the original myth of George Campbell, and yet the modern transformation is well represented. The Metamorphosis-motif, which can be seen through the drama ‘Beauty Inside’, ‘Han Segye’, is distinguished from most other works in terms of the type and representation of transformation. However, it can be said that the theme consciousness to be expressed through the transformation motive is organically connected with the classical theme of self - reflection and self - identity exploration, which is a traditional theme of literature. This organicity is a proper storytelling method when recreating classical motifs with modern contents. The fusion of narrative and narrative creates a contemporary and novel story, while at the same time it organizes stories in a traditional narrative style. In other words, the plot, which is the big skeleton of the work, follows the traditional narrative, but the process of story telling is modern and individual, meaning its significance can be found. The drama “Beauty Inside” shows a new storytelling case of the Metamorphosis-motif frequently appearing in classical narrative, and it can be said that it is the modern contents which can confirm the formation of the continuing literature.

본 연구에서는 문학에서 신화가 가지는 원형성에 주목하여 변신 모티프 의 현대적 재현양상을 드라마 「뷰티 인사이드」를 중심으로 분석하였다. 신 화는 문학의 공통 서사구조를 제공하는 보편적이고 본질적인 이야기이다. 또한, 신화는 인간에게 천부적으로 잠재해 있는 것들을 어떠한 틀이 되는 원리를 통해 나타내며, 이것은 비슷한 구조를 가진 이야기 체계가 된다. 이 러한 신화의 원형성은 현대에 와서도 반복적으로 나타나고 있다. 신화를 소 재로 한 다양한 현대작품이 많은 사람의 관심을 받는 것은 신화가 시대를 초월하여 사람들이 공감할 수 있는 보편성과 환상성을 지녔음을 반증한다. 변신 모티프는 인간의 근원적인 욕망을 담고 있다. 이는 주인공이 지향하 는 대상과 자신을 동일시함, 현실을 초월하고 싶은 원망(願望)의 표출, 상실 한 자아 표상의 상징적 재현 등 시대와 작품의 주제에 따라 다른 모습으로 나타난다. 본 연구에서는 신화와 설화의 변신 모티프가 현대작품에서 어떻 게 드러나는지 분석해 봄으로써 신화의 원형적 서사구조와 주제의식을 새 로운 시각에서 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 2018년 JTBC에서 방영된 드라마 「뷰티 인사이드」를 그 대상 텍스트로 하였다. 이 작품에 주목한 이유는 여기에 나타난 서사구조가 조지 캠벨이 밝힌 원질신화의 개념에 부합하면서도 변 신 모티프의 현대적 변용이 잘 드러나 있기 때문이다. 신화와 현대작품을 비교하여 분석하는 것은 창작기법의 변모와 문학이 지닌 진정한 가치 및 주 제의식 탐구에 도움을 주는 매우 의미 있는 연구 과정이라고 할 수 있다. 드라마 「뷰티 인사이드」의 주인공 ‘한세계’를 통해 나타나는 변신 모티프 의 특징은 변신의 유형 및 재현 양상 등에서 다른 대다수 작품과 구별되는 특징을 갖는다. 그러나 이 작품에서 변신 모티프를 통해 나타내고자 하는 주제의식은 ‘자아 성찰과 자기 정체성 탐구’라는 문학의 전통적이고 고전 적인 주제와 유기적으로 연결되어 있다. 이러한 유기성으로 고전적 모티프 는 현대 콘텐츠로 다시 스토리텔링된다고 할 수 있다. 서사와 서사의 융합 으로 현대적이고 참신한 스토리 창출을 하면서 동시에, 그 기저에 전통적인 서사 방식을 두고 이야기를 새롭게 구성하는 것이다. 즉 작품의 큰 골격인 플롯은 전통적 서사에 따르지만, 스토리텔링의 과정은 현대적이며 개별적 이라는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 드라마 「뷰티 인사이드」는 고전서사 에 자주 등장하는 변신 모티프의 새로운 스토리텔링 사례를 보여주며, 현대 에도 지속되는 문학의 원형을 확인할 수 있는 현대 콘텐츠라고 할 수 있다.
