The purpose of this study is to examine the concept of Noddings' ‘Caring’ and to analyze whether the behaviors that occur in the relationship between teacher and students are considered as caring. For this purpose, I and Jae Hoon' s case were described and analyzed three representative situations in light of Noddings’ caring. The results of the study were as follows. First, when the teacher focused on the instruction and could not pay attention to the student, caring was not established. Second, when the teacher focused on the learning aspect of the student, insufficient caring occurred. Third, the students perceived this as caring when they practiced the activities considering the whole personality such as relational, learning, and emotional aspects. There are four implications of these findings on teacher-student care relationship. First, caring must be done in a holistic way. Second, caring is continuous and cyclical. Third, care is one of the characteristics of education. Fourth, teachers were required to have professional ability to care.

본 연구에서는 나딩스의 배려 개념을 고찰해보고 교사와 학생의 관계에서 일어나는 행위를 배려의 관점에서 분석하였다. 이를 위해 나와 재훈이의 사례를 기술하였고 대표적인 3가지 상황을 나딩스의 배려 개념에 비추어 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같았다. 첫째, 교사가 수업에 집중하여 학생에 대해 전념하지 못할 때 는 배려가 성립되지 않았다. 둘째, 교사가 학생의 학습적 측면에 집중한 행위를 하였을 때는 불충분한 배려가 일어났다. 셋째, 관계적, 학습적, 정서적 측면 등 전인격적인 측면을 고려한 행위를 실천하였을 때 학생은 이를 배려로 인지하였고 배려가 성립되었다. 이러한 연구 결과가 교사와 학생의 배려 관계에 주는 시사점은 크게 네 가지였다. 첫째, 배 려는 총체적인 측면에서 이루어져야 한다. 둘째, 배려는 연속적이며 순환적인 성격을 가진다. 셋째, 배려는 교육의 성격 중 하나이다. 넷째, 교사에게는 배려를 위한 전문적인 능력이 요구 됨을 알 수 있었다.
