The purpose of this study is to perform the Korean linguistic analysis about 4 , which are not introduced to the academia yet, and write the decoded letter. In the result of investigation about Korean language in the middle 19th century and newly appeared form, expression or phonological characteristics in the view point of Korean linguistics, the study disclosed these letters are important material in the point that they show the Korean linguistic characteristics before 19th century and they also show the language of royal family and Scholar-officials and the unique style of Korean old vernacular letters. Particularly the study attempted to figure out the Korean linguistic singularity like, even though the were written in 19th century, the palatalization was not appeared. As the written characteristic of , they show that the syllabification and yeoncheol were mixed and use of 7 final consonants were clearly established in writings. As the phonological characteristic, I could know that ‘ㄴ+ㄹ’ connection of ‘ㄹ’ nosalization was expressed as ‘ㄴ+ㄴ’, and the writing pattern related ‘ㄹㄹ’ connection shows very refined shape, because the sender of is one person. The vowel rounding was formed in the end of 17the century in the central language, but it wasn’t shown in these letters. This study took the palatalization as the research object. The time that the palatalization was established was the transition period of 17th century and 18th century, but even one of it was not found. These letters shows very conservative tendency compared to other Korean old vernacular letters and it is assumed that writer intentionally avoided of applying it. This study investigated the honorification for the morphometric characteristic. In the letter to second cousin Kim Hongguen, which is being kept in Kyujanggak, three level system was used, but I could figure out that, in the letters to daughters and son-in-laws, which are being kept in Dankook University, only two level system of moderately addressee-lowering and highly addressee-lowering were used.

본고는 아직까지 학계에 소개되지 않은 <순원왕후 언간> 네 건에 대해 국어학적 분석을 하고 판독문을 작성하는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 이 언간들은 국어학 측면에서 19세기 중엽의 국어 및 19세기에 새롭게 등장한 형태나 표현, 표기법이나 음운론적 특징을 다룬 결과 19세기 이전의 국어학적 특 징과 왕실과 사대부가에서 사용된 언어와 언간 특유의 문체를 많이 보여준다는 점 에서 중요한 자료임을 밝혔다. 특히 <순원왕후 언간>은 19세기에 쓰여졌음에도 구 개음화가 진행되지 않는 등의 국어학적 특이점을 밝히고자 하였다. <순원왕후 언간>의 표기적 특징으로 분철․연철 표기가 혼용되어 사용되었고, 7 종성 표기가 확고히 자리 잡은 모습을 보이고 있다. 음운적 특징으로 ‘ㄹ’비음화 ‘ㄴ+ㄹ’ 연쇄에서는 ‘ㄴ+ㄴ’으로 실현되었음을 알 수 있으며, <순원왕후 언간>은 발신자가 1인이라서, ‘ㄹㄹ’ 연쇄와 관련된 표기 유형이 매우 정제된 모습이었다. 원순모음화는 중앙어에서 17세기 말엽에 이루어 졌는데, 이 언간에서는 나타나지 않았다. 구개음화를 연구 대상으로 삼았다. 구개음화가 완성된 시기가 17세기와 18세기 의 교체기이지만, 구개음화가 하나도 발견되지 않았다. 이는 다른 언간들에 비해서 상당히 보수적인 경향을 보이며, 의식적으로 적용을 회피한 것으로 추정된다. 형태적 특징으로 경어법을 살펴보았다. 규장각 소장 재종형제 김흥근에게 보낸 언간에서는 세 등급 체계가 쓰였지만, 단국대 소장 언간에서는 딸과 사위들에게 보 낸 것으로 예사 낮춤과 아주 낮춤의 두 등급 체계만이 쓰였다는 것을 알 수 있다.
