This study was conducted to examine the status of character strengths research published in Korean academic journals and to make suggestions on future research. A total of 122 papers published in academic journals from 2008 to 2018 were analyzed according to the target of research and research methods. First of all, the study of character strengths was conducted steadily every year since 2008. Second, the research results on character strengths were conducted in various research fields and published in more than 60 academic journals. Third, the largest number of studies were conducted on special groups, followed by college students, elementary school students, teenagers, and adults. There were very few studies for preschoolers and seniors. Fourth, 75.4% of the total was survey research, 17.2% of the total was experimental research, and literature review, case studies and development studies were not actively conducted. Fifth, 73.7% of the study on character strengths of elementary school students was survey research, followed by experimental research, literature research and development research, but there was no case study. Finally, the meaning and limitations of this study were described and suggestions were discussed for the development of domestic character strength-based research.

이 연구는 국내 학술지에 게재된 성격강점 연구의 현황을 알아보고, 향후 연구의 방향과 과 제에 대한 제언을 위한 목적으로 이루어졌다. 이를 위해 2008년부터 2018년까지 학술지에 게 재된 총 122편의 논문을 대상으로 하여 연구대상과 연구방법에 따라 연구 동향을 분석하였 다. 분석결과 첫째, 성격강점 연구는 2008년을 시작으로 하여 매년 꾸준히 실시되었다. 둘째, 성격강점 연구는 60여 개 이상의 학회지에 게재되어 다양한 연구 분야에서 실시되었다. 셋째, 특수집단을 대상으로 한 연구가 가장 많았고 대학생, 초등학생, 청소년, 성인의 순으로 나타 났다. 취학 전 아동과 노인 대상 연구는 매우 적었다. 넷째, 조사연구가 전체의 75.4%, 실험 연구가 17.2% 등으로 나타났으며 문헌연구와 사례연구, 개발연구는 활발하게 이루어지지 못 했다. 다섯째, 초등학생을 대상으로 한 성격강점 연구의 73.7%는 조사연구였고 실험연구와 문헌연구, 개발연구 순으로 많이 이루어졌으나 사례연구는 없었다. 끝으로 이 연구가 지니는 의미와 제한점을 밝히고 국내 성격강점 연구의 발전을 위한 제언을 논의하였다.
