This study aims to identify determinant factors of marriage among Korean adults by analyzing the results of national survey conducted by Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHSA) in 2015. Most of researchers also intend to suggest academic and policy implications based on literature review of Koreans' determinants of marriage. Contemporary Korean society is suffering reduction of population, labor productivity, and marriage influenced by chronic economic depression, unemployment, and social change from status elevation to personal happiness. The results of the national survey of KIHSA showed that about 60% of the male respondents revealed favorable opinion toward marriage while the female counterparts showed only 40% of the favorable response toward marriage. The literature indicated that there are principles of essentiality, convertibility, and compensation which are based on personal assessment of value for pursing compensation through the marriage. The standard of the mate selection was most favorable toward personality both for the male and female respondents, however, the female respondents selected economic power as the second most important determinant while the male counterparts love and care. The level of education becomes a merit to males while it exerts an adversary effect on females. The survey also suggested that young people have high burden for housing, wedding cost in their preparation of marriage, therefore the government should support the newly weds. The results of this study indicate that Korean society should accept the change of view among the young adults on the marriage and of diversity of forms of family.

연구는 한국보건사회연구원이 2015년도 결혼 적령기에 있는 전국 성인남녀 약 2,400명을 대상으로 실시한 설문조사 결과와 한국인의 결혼에 관한 선행연구를 참고하 여 한국인들의 결혼 결심 결정요인을 규명하고 이것이 주는 학술적, 정책적 시사점을 도출하는데 그 목적이 있다. 현대 한국사회는 만성적인 경기침체, 실업 등으로 인한 경 제적 불안과 함께 사회적 지위보다는 개인의 행복을 추구하는 심리사회적 경향으로 인 해 결혼율이 감소하고, 이는 저출산 및 인구감소, 노동생산성의 감소 등 사회적 동력의 저하로 이어지고 있다. 배우자 선택은 동질성, 보상성, 교환성 등의 원리가 작용하는데, 이는 주관적 가치를 중심으로 배우자를 통해 보상을 얻으려는 심리에 기반한 것으로 파 악할 수 있다. 배우자 선택의 기준으로 남녀 모두 성격의 비중이 높았으나, 그 다음 요 소로서 남자는 신뢰와 사랑이 여자는 경제력이 높아서 성별 차이가 나타났다. 교육수준 은 남성에게는 결혼에 유리한 조건이지만 여성에게는 오히려 불리한 조건으로 작용할 수 있어 유의미한 성별차이가 나타났다. 만성적 경기침체로 결혼으로 인한 경제적 부담 이 가중되어 주택마련, 결혼비용에 대하 인식 개선 등에 정부 및 사회의 지원과 인식전 환이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 가족에 대한 희생보다는 개인의 자아성취를 중요시 하는 가치관의 변화를 반영하여 청년층에게 결혼을 강요하기 보다는 결혼에 대한 다양 한 의견을 존중하고, 가족형태의 변화를 정책적으로 수용하는 노력이 필요하다.
