Busan, located at the southeastern tip of the Korean Peninsula, is the place where people first went to Japan and culture exchanged due to its geographical conditions. Evidence that the two regions have grown through the ages from the remote myths and legends to the historical periods is emerging. However, the false notion of Japanese history compiled after the collapse of Baekje and Japan lost relations with the Korean Peninsula in the 7th century made believe Japan that to invade Korea is regaining its old territory. In that history, Busan and Japan both have been walking way to the development of social and economic cooperation. The two areas grew and developed together when the two sides displayed the spirit of friendship and cooperation despite the one-sided contact between civilizations and forces. Looking back on past history from a perspective of the overall view it would be better to make most of the traces of history left in Busan as a resource for mutual visits and exchanges for the better future of the people of the two regions.

한반도의 동남쪽 끝에 위치한 부산은 그 지리적 조건 때문에 일본에 가장 먼저 사람이 건너가고 문화가 교류한 곳이다. 아득한 신화, 전설 시대부터 역사 시대에 이르기까지 두 지역이 같은 습속을 키워온 증거들이 속속 드러나고 있다. 그러나 7세기에 백제가 망하고 일본이 한반도와의 관계를 상실한 이후 편찬된 일본역사서에 의한 잘못된 기술은 일본이 한국을 침략하는 것이 마치 옛 영토를 되찾는 것인 양 일본인들에게 인식되게 만들어 그것이 일본의 한국 침략과 많은 사람들의 죽음, 납치 등의 피해로 이어졌다. 그러나 그런 역사 속에서 부산과 일본은 사회문화와 경제의 발전을 함께한 측면이 있다. 문명과 힘의 차이로 생긴 침략이란 일방적인 접촉 속에서도 양측이 우호와 협력의 정신을 발휘했을 때에 두 지역은 함께 성장했고 발전했다. 과거 역사를 통시적 시각에서 되돌아보며 부산에 남은 역사의 흔적을 두 지역 사람들의 더 나은 미래를 위한 교류와 방문의 자원으로 활용하는 것이 앞으로의 과제라 할 것이다.
