Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) is a serious problematic behavior which occurs in line with a variety of clinical conditions. NSSI covers a wide range of behaviors from passive and indirect self-defeating thoughts to active and direct destruction of body tissue. NSSI has begun to receive increasing attention of clinical researchers. However, there is a dearth of research on the development and validation of objective measures for NSSI. The present study aimed to validate the Korean version of the Self-Harm Inventory (K-SHI). Three-hundred and seventeen undergraduates in South Korea completed a self-report packet consisting of the K-SHI and other measures, and 52 of these participants completed K-SHI again after an interval of 2 weeks. We administered an exploratory factor analysis and investigated psychometric properties of the K-SHI. Results indicate that one factor model fits the data from the current sample. And it was suggested that the K-SHI has good internal consistency, adequate construct, convergent and discriminate validity; and acceptable test-retest reliability. In addition, the K-SHI showed good predictive validity on borderline personality trait. Clinical implications and limitations of our findings are discussed.

비자살적 자해는 다양한 임상적 상태와 관련하여 나타나는 심각한 문제 행동으로, 스스로를 방치하거나 자기패배적 사고를 하는 등 수동적이고 간접적인 방법부터 자신의 신체를 해치는 적극적이고 직접적인 행동에 이르는 넓은 스펙트럼으로 나타날 수 있다. 임상장면에서 비자 살적 자해에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있음에도 불구하고, 이를 객관적으로 측정하기 위한 측정 도구의 개발 및 타당화는 미진한 것이 사실이다. 본 연구에서는 Sansone, Wiederman과 Sansone (1998)에 의해 개발되어 국내외에서 비자살적 자해의 평가에 가장 널리 쓰이고 있는 자해 척 도(Self-Harm Inventory, SHI)를 우리말로 번안하고 타당화 하였다. 총 317명의 대학생들을 대상 으로 탐색적 요인분석을 통해 척도의 요인구조를 살펴보고, 심리측정적 속성에 대해 확인하 였다. 분석 결과, 한국판 자해 척도(K-SHI)는 1요인 구조를 가지고 있으며, 적절한 신뢰도와 타당도를 가지고 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 경계성 성격장애에 대한 예측타당도도 양호 한 것으로 나타나, 향후 비자살적 자해와 경계성 성격장애 분야에서의 연구에 효과적인 선별 도구로서 사용될 수 있음이 시사되었다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 임상적 함의와 연구의 제한점 에 대해 논하였다.
