In the 1970s, the society of Korean residents in Japan reduced for diverse reasons, such as North Korean repatriation project, naturalization, and marriage. Also, with the spread of settlement consciousness focusing on the second generation of Korean residents in Japan, a considerable number of Korean residents in Japan was naturalized in Japan and underwent international marriage with the Japanese people. This led to the decrease of Korean residents in Japan and the reduction of the Korean residents’society in Japan. A quarterly magazine, named Madang recognized this situation as a serious problem. In order to control this situation, Madang delivered messages to the society of Korean residents in Japan through discourses on the nationality･naturalization･marriage. The discourses on the marriage highlighted in Madang were largely divided into two methods. First, it was a method to criticize Japan’s discrimination that continued from the Japanese colonial era. Madang criticized Japan by saying that the JapaneseKorean marriage policy after the Japanese invasion of Joseon and the KoreaJapan Annexation created the current form of Korean residents in Japan, which led to unhappy families even after the liberation. At the same time, it also criticized the Japanese society and assimilation policy by saying that the international marriage was increasing because of the government’s assimilation policy and continuous discrimination against Korean people even after the liberation. Second, instead of aiming to change the society of Korean residents in Japan by abolishing the outdated custom of the first generation and society of Korean residents in Japan such as regionalism, marital compatibility, and parents’interference, it argued that a social movement should be practiced to establish the identity of the second generation of Korean residents in Japan through the national education. In this way, Madang aimed to create a society where Korean people could be settled down by maintaining the original community form of the Korean residents in Japan through various efforts, and by overcoming the identity issue. This intention of Madang is clearly visible in the discourses on the nationality･naturalization･marriage.

1970년대는 북송사업, 귀화, 결혼 등 다양한 이유로 재일조선인 사회가 축소되던 시기였다. 또한 재일조선인 2세대를 중심으로 정주의식이 확산되며 상당수의 재일조 선인들이 일본으로 귀화하고 일본인과의 국제결혼을 선택했다. 이는 재일조선인의 감소 및 재일조선인 사회 축소로 이어졌다. 이러한 상황을 『마당』은 심각한 문제로 인식했다. 상황의 타파를 위해 『마당』은 국적･귀화･결혼담론을 통해 재일조선인 사 회에 메시지를 전달했다. 『마당』의 결혼 담론은 크게 두 방식으로 전개됐다. 첫 번째로 일제강점기부터 현재까지 계속되고 있는 일본의 차별을 비판하는 방식이었다. 『마당』은 일제의 조선 침략과 한일병합 이후 내선결혼 정책이 현재 재일조선인 형태를 만들었으며 해방 이후에도 불행한 가정을 만들었다고 말하며 일본을 비판했다. 동시에 해방 이후에도 계속되는 조선인 차별과 정부의 동화정책으로 국제결혼이 증가하는 것이라며 일본 사회와 동화정책을 비판했다. 두 번째로 지역감정, 궁합, 부모의 간섭 등 재일조선인 사회와 1세대의 구시대적 관습철패 등을 통해 재일조선인 사회를 변화하고자 했으며 민족교육을 통해 재일조선인 2세대의 정체성을 확립하고 사회운동으로 실천할 것을 주장했다. 이처럼 『마당』은 다양한 노력을 통해 재일조선인 커뮤니티의 원형을 유지하고 더 나아가 이데올로기 문제가 극복되어 정주할 수 있는 사회를 만들고자 했다. 이러한 『마당』의 의도를 확인할 수 있는 것이 국적･귀화･결혼 담론이라 할 수 있다.
