Japan has succeeded in registering its modern industrial facilities as a UNESCO cultural heritage. In this process, it even included industrial facilities containing the sorrow of the Korean people who were forcefully conscripted to work there in the heritage record. This brought to the surface conflicts between Korea and Japan. The history of conflicts between Korea and Japan is very long and deep, but the decisive time to trigger this conflict was the Imjinweran in the middle of the Joseon period which is considered the worst time of turmoil in our history. The characteristic of this battle also called ‘The 7-year War’ is that volunteer soldiers played an important role in the dynamics while the government army did not properly play their role given. Kim, Chon-Il, who came from Honam Province, is the subject of this study, was also active in leading patriotic soldiers and in particular he died along with his son while struggling to protect Jinjoo Fortress in Yeongnam Province. In this respect, he would be a good model in removing regional sentiments between Yeongnam and Honam provinces.

최근 일본은 그들의 근대 산업시설을 유네스코 문화유산에 등재 시키는데 성공하였다. 이 과정에서 일제시대 강제 징용된 조선인들의 애환이 깃든 산업시설까지도 등재 목록에 포함 시킴으로써 한․일간 갈등이 표면화 되었다. 한․일간 갈등의 역사는 매우 길고도 깊지만 그 결정적 계기는 우리 민족사에서 가장 큰 환란으로 꼽히는 조선(朝鮮) 중기의 임진왜란이라고 할 수 있다. 흔히 ‘7년 전쟁’이라고 불리운 이 전쟁의 특징은 국왕을 중심으로 한 관군(官軍)이 제 기 능을 다하지 못한 반면 백성들이 스스로 일으킨 의병(義兵)이 중요한 역할을 담당하였다는 것이다. 이 글에서 다루는 김천일(金千鎰) 역시 의병을 이끌어 크게 활약한 인물로, 특히 그는 호 남사람으로 영남의 진주성을 지키기 위해 분투하다가 부자(父子)가 함께 장렬히 전사하였 다. 이러한 점에서 김천일은 망국병(亡國病)으로 불리는 영․호남 간 지역감정을 해소하는 데도 귀감이 될 수 있다고 하겠다.
