This paper deals with the characteristics of major power and demonstration patterns in the development of the March 1 movement in Pyeongtaek. When the March 1 movement in Gyeongseon province was propagated in the Pyeongtaek area, the main route could be to say the propagation of the demonstration and the propagation of demonstration in nearby areas such as Osan. However, in this case, the path has two paths specifically. One is the long-standing demonstration of Hyeon-deok-myeon on March 9. another one is the protests in Bong-nam-ri, Book-myeon, on March 31, showed the news of the protests in Seongho-myeon, Osan, on the 29th of March, located in the north of Book-myeon. This can be confirmed by comparing the date and location of the protest on the map. The characteristics of March 1st Independence Movement in Pyeongtaek area are as follows. First of all, it confirms the influence of Chondogyo in the region. It was well known that the March 1st movement in urban areas was basically propagated by the Christian-school network. In addition, Chundogyo also had influential. In particular, in the case of Pyeongtaek, the influence of the Chundogyo is confirmed in the fact that the March 1st Independence Movement spread from Hyeon-deok-myeon to Pyeongtaek is centering on the Chondokyo mission area. The second is the distinction between artificial demonstration and natural demonstration . At that time, in the case of more than 300 large-scale demonstrations of Pyeongtaek Station on April 1, the act of copying and distributing the preparation of Taegeukgi, the Declaration of Independence, is confirmed as a major driving force. On the other hand, in the case of intermittent protesters that occur later, local people voluntarily participate due to the influence of March 1st Independence Movement. In this case, the protests are often seen in the form of torchlight demonstrations. Based on the above, the March 1st Independence Movement in Pyeongtaek area began with the influence of the Chondokyo as the center, as a whole, A variety of forces including Chondogyo, Christianity, and students participated in the massive protesters of Pyeongtaek Station. Since the demonstration have spread to different regions, the participation of the general people including farmers has become prominent, and the intermittent but natural demonstration have also developed in the artificial demonstrations.

본고는 평택지역의 3·1운동의 전개과정에서 나타난 주요세력과 시위형태에 대한 특징을 다룬 것이다. 경성에서 일어난 3·1운동이 평택지역의 전파되었을 때 주요한 경로는 만세시위를 본 사람들의 전파와 오산 등 인근지역의 만세시위의 전파 등으로 말할 수 있다. 그런데 이 경우 그 경로는 구체적으로 두 가지의 경로를 보이고 있다. 하나는 평택지역 서쪽에 위치하며 최초의 만세시위로 알려진 3월 9일 현덕면의 만세시위 이고, 하나는 3월 31일 북면 봉남리에서 일어난 만세시위로 북면은 전날 북쪽에 위치한 오산의 3월 29일 성호면 오산시장 만세시위의 소식이 전달된 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이와 같은 형태는 지도에 만세시위의 날짜와 위치를 찍어 비교함으로써 그 양상을 확인할 수 있다. 이를 통해서 볼 때 평택지역의 3·1운동 특징은 다음과 같다. 우선 첫 번째로는 지역에서 천도교에 대한 영향력 확인이다. 도시 지역의 3·1운동이 기본적으로 기독교-학교 네트워크에 의해서 전파되었다는 것은 잘 알려져 있었는데, 이와 더불어 천도교의 또한 영향력이 적지 않았다. 특히 평택의 경우 현덕면에서 평택으로 전파되는 3·1운동의 경위가 천도교 포교지역을 중심으로 이동하고 있다는 점에서 천도교의 영향력이 확인된다. 두 번째로는 조직적인 만세시위와 자연적인 만세시위의 구분이다. 당시 4월 1일 평택역의 300명 이상의 대규모 만세시위의 경우 태극기의 준비 혹인 독립선언서를 복사 및 배포하는 행위는 그 조직적인 움직이 주요한 동력으로 확인되는데 반하여 이후 발생하는 지역의 간헐적인 만세시위의 경우 판결문을 통해서도 알 수 있듯이 조직적인 시위보다 만세소식이 전파되어 그 영향으로 인한 지역민의 자발적인 참여가 일어나는 자연적인 만세시위등이 확인된다 이 경우 시위는 횃불시위의 형태를 띄는 경우가 많다고 보여진다. 요약하여 이상의 내용을 종합하여 볼 때 평택지역의 3·1운동 만세시위는 전반적으로 천도교의 영향력이 중심이 되어 시작되어, 병남면 평택역의 대규모 만세시위에는 천도교·기독교·학생 등 다양한 세력이 참여하였으며 이후 시위가 지역별로 확산되면서 농민을 비롯한 일반민중들의 참여가 두드러지고, 점차 조직적인 만세시위에서 간헐적이지만 자연적인 만세시위도 발생하며 전개되었다고 볼 수 있다.
