- As the choice of social welfare involves various values related to the quality of human life, it is important to analyze such values. Since the introduction of the social welfare system, social welfare have steadily been paying attention to equal opportunity, The value of equal opportunity argues that all humans are equal and therefore they should be given opportunities impartially, and this value must be considered in implementing social welfare. Religious doctrines are also influencing the value of social welfare by providing the ideological ground of social welfare activities. Saṁ yutta Nikāya is a sutra that collected Buddha’s teachings according to theme and explains how to attain awakening. In order to analyze Saṁyutta Nikāya from the perspective of the value of equal opportunity, this study divided the value of equal opportunity into ‘guarantee of equal opportunity’ and ‘elimination of discriminative elements,’ and again subdivided ‘guarantee of equal opportunity’ into inborn equal right and equality in the possession of opportunities, and ‘elimination of discriminative elements’ into fair condition, social justice, and redistribution of goods. Through these works, this study aimed to contribute to the direction of Buddhist social welfare.

- 사회복지제도가 실시된 이래로 사회복지는 지속적으로 기회균등에 많은 관심을 가져오고 있으며, 기회균등의 가치에 의해 크게 영향을 받고 있다. 기회균등의 가치 는 인간은 누구나 평등하므로 균등한 기회가 주어져야 한다는 가치이다. 종교 교리도 사회복지 활동을 위한 이념의 근거를 제공하면서 사회복지의 가치에 영향을 미치고 있다. 상윳따 니까야는 부처님의 가르침을 주제별로 모아 깨달음의 실현방법을 밝히고 있는 경전이다. 본 연구는 상윳따 니까야를 기회균등의 가치로 분석하기 위하여, 기회균등의 가치를 ‘기회균등의 보장’과 ‘차별적 요소의 제거’로 나누고, 다 시 ‘기회균등의 보장’은 천부적 평등권과 기회소유의 평등으로, ‘차별적 요소의 제거’ 는 공평한 조건, 사회정의, 재화의 재분배로 나누어 검토하였다. 이를 통하여 불교사 회복지의 방향성 모색에 도움이 되고자 하였다.
