As the ills of modern society and school violence problems have been growing, there has been growing interest in these and Character education Promotion Act was passed in order to strengthen Character education under a nation initiative. In addition, multi-cultural education which is for coexistence and co-prosperity with immigrants with various social and cultural backgrounds has become a prime concern. Depending on this social background, we need to search that how strengthening character education affects multi-cultural education. In this study, I suggest the directions for character education suitable for a multicultural society to make positive connection between character and multi-cultural education. There are four suggestions for character education in a multicultural society ; character education with access to multi-cultural education, character education respecting to differences of diverse cultures and customs, adding to justice as the virtue of character education, and implementation of teaching method focused on experience and sensibility.

현대사회의 병폐와 학교폭력의 문제가 증가하면서 이에 대한 사회적 관심이 높아지게 되었고 국가가 주도하는 인성교육의 강화를 위한 인성교육진흥법이 제정되었다. 또한 다문화 사회로 진입하게 되어 다양한 사회적 ,문화적 배경을 가진 이주민들과의 상생적 공존을 위한 다문화 교육도 중요한 관심사가 되었 다. 이러한 사회적 배경에서 인성교육의 강화가 다문화 교육에 어떠한 영향을 미칠 것인지를 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 인성교육과 다문화교육이 긍정적 관계를 갖기 위한 다문화 사회에 적합한 인성교육의 방향을 제안하고 자 한다. 다문화 사회의 인성교육을 위한 방안을 다음과 같이 제안하였다. ① 다문화 교육적 접근을 통한 인성교육 ② 다양한 문화 관습차이를 존중하는 인 성교육 ③ 인성교육의 덕목으로 정의를 추가 ④ 체험, 감성중심의 교수법시행 이다.
